Anyone heard anything about the 04 Major Sponsor?

I'm looking to purchase a new jersey, but I am waiting to see if the Bombers change major sponsorships for next season.

I heard recently that Hutchinson are going broke, and the 3 year deal they had with them has run out this year.

So has anyone heard anything lately?

I had heard all of that too, but I'd also heard more recently that the Hutchison deal was being renewed, which I would guess means that we'll be wearing the big '3' again.

I need a new guernsey myself. I've still got an 'Orange' one. Was hoping there'd be end of season clearances or discounts but I haven't seen any.

Hutchison were losing $200-300 million a year when we first took them on as sponsors three years ago. They've lost close to a billion dollars since then. Don't expect them to be around too much longer.

Yeah a friend of mine just started working in the new 3 shop on the corner of Swanston and Collins.

The whole '3' phone phenomenon is running at a huge loss to ty and snare customers, but it hasn't been as huage as they would've liked, even though they've spent heaps on marketing and sponsorship.

Orange/3 have been " on the brink" for 2 years now, I`m not a big Financial Times reader, but if these blokes keep paying the bills, who gives a toss ? For a company that is " on the brink" they sure have decent cash reserves.

It's a whole bunch of investors speculating on the success of 3G mobile phones. They operate at a loss to get enough market share. Not sure if it's going to succeed or not. Anyone remember One.Tel? I'd hate to have a 3 Phone if these guys go out of business...

Their financial plight is of minor consequence as long as they cough up the bread to us, like you say. But i'd prefer my club wasn't associated with losers. If we could get a successful company as a major sponsor for the same (or similar) bucks i'd say bye bye Hutchison.

we have got no problem with cash. 3 is losing cash but is owned bu hutchison telecom, one of many companies owned by li ka shing, the 8th richest man in the world. he has dropped a lot of dough around the world because his son bought up all the 3g rights at a huge cost and cant get his outlay back. but the bloke is a multi multi billionaire so will keep plugging away at it for hsi sons benefit.

I think you will find that both 3 and Orange have been losing money, but are both backed by Hutchinsons, a huge organisation with plenty of money.

I think they will stick with 3. I know many people switching to it, and I myself would had I not signed a 2 year contract 6 months ago.

Well Mayne Logistics dumped Carlton, and they came second last...Optus nearly dumped them too but Collo managed to sway them.

Does it really matter what guernsey you have? I've still got the old Speed Kills Fila number circ 2000, before that it was the Speed Kills Puma. Never bought the Reebok guernseys.

Remember when that sort of Super Cool "You won't sweat in this (hahaha, bull**** you won't!) overpriced peice of Polyster shyte" first came out in 96? I got one of them, becuase I'd outgrown my Nubrik one. (I'm still looking for a Nubrik (Adult) woolen one btw.)

When we got rid of orange, I pulled a swifty and managed to pick it up for $30. Never worn it though.

I'll do the same when we **** off 3 as well. I'm not paying $100 when I have a perfectly good one that's been to two Grand Finals and had loads of beer spilt on it.

Same with my Reebok tracksuit. Hasn't faded at all, and is probably the best looking tracksuit we ever had, bar those real old addidas ones.

- a 2001 jumper (FILA - Orange).

I just want to know if I should buy the "3" jumper now if it turns out that Essendon change sponsor.

Similar I'd say. Contract ended and Mayne decided 'Whoa! Thank goodness that's over'

Whereas if Carlton were successful, I'd think they would've considered a contract extension.

I was hoping there would be an off-season sale at the Bomber shop, but it doesn't look like there's going to be one. So I guess I'm stuck.

I'd really like an old Sekem wool guernsey but those seem to be impossible to find in adult sizes.

Picked up a long sleeve 2000 version essendon jumper at the Bombershop for $20 at the end of '00. There were a whole bunch of '99 and '00 version essendon tops just lying on the floor with people scavanging for them.

Also managed to pickup a '00 version essendon top with Lloyds number inprinted into the cotton (no iron sh*t) and a '99 version with Lucas's number on the back, one was $20 and the other was $40.
