Looking at getting a Wii, just to mess around with when I'm bored. Already got a PS3, but looking to get the Mario games + a few others.

Are Wii's worth it? Do people here that have them get over it quick?

Cheers,
Rizzo

depends if you know what you're getting into...

the motion controls are not 1:1 at the moment and most developers have not worked out how to use it well like Nintendo.

there is a WHOLE LOT of crappy games....so metacritic is your friend.

there is a solid library of games now.....and they're pretty cheap if you know where to look...

eg: I picked up boom blox at target the other day for 30 dollars.

a quick opinion of some games I've bought recently

Little king's story..... one of the best games of the year.....a cross with pikmin and a real time strategy game....but in a quirky medievil setting.

House of the Dead Overkill - pretty fun party game....but wayyyy too easy

Grand Slam Tennis - the controls are pretty fugged up...... you have to constantly recallibrate and it is not true 1:1 despite having wii motion plus.

I owned one a couple of years ago and sold it after about 6 months of use (made a profit, thanks ebay:)) i got over it pretty quick but thats not to say it will happen to you.
In the end it only got played at our poker nights after we had a few beers (i won my money back on wii sport :D)
After saying all that ill prob get another soon cause my son wants one.

I don't know, got one for my daughter and she plays the xbox more often. :D For me once I got over the wiimote and played a few games of wii sports it started to bore me pretty quick. The only game I'll play semi regularly on it is Mario Kart.

I have a PS3 and a Wii and had my Wii about 6 months before my PS3. As soon as I got my PS3, I havn't even touched my Wii. I barely touched it before hand.

Wiis are a novelty item, you'll seriously regret buying it after a week of owning one.

The Wii remote just always seemed like a gimmicky annoyance to me. I'm not someone who wants to have to put massive physical effort into playing video games - they're a form of relaxation if anything. If I wanted to go through the movements and motions of a sport, I'd actually go and play it for real. For example, I'd much prefer to actually go ten pin bowling than play it on the Wii. Hence, I haven't bought a Wii :p

With the new (and better) motion controls for both PS3 and 360 coming out soon enough there isn't any need for a Wii. A novelty item that IMO would only be good for Tennis games and nothing much else that you can't get anywhere else.

You already have a PS3. Take a look at the catalogue of games coming up from this and next year and you won't need another console.

The only reason you'd probably want to get it is if you are a massive Metroid, Zelda and Mario fan. Otherwise you will do fine.

Only buy a Wii if you're going to be enticed by games like Zelda and assorted Mario-related games.

I got Mario Kart the other day, pretty fun, whilst repetitive.

there are some very good games for the wii

Zelda Twilight princess
Mario Galaxy
Smash Bros
Metroid Prime 3
Mario Cart
No More Heroes
Madworld

and if you didn't have a game cube there are a bunch of games worth checking out.

Pikmin 1 & 2
Eternal darkness
viewtiful joe
killer 7
resident evil 4

in fact getting a wii is worth it just so you can play eternal darkness

EDIT: there is a new Zelda game coming out for the wii. if you don't have one you will miss out

Here is a fantastic list of most of the PS3 (and PSN) exclusives scheduled for this and next year (Includes titles that are already out).

The Official PlayStation 3 Exclusive List
Quality titles from that list 2009 releases: Afrika. Demon's Souls(Action-RPG). Gran Turismo 5 (Could be 2010). Heavy Rain (Could be 2010). inFAMOUS. Killzone 2. MAG. Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time. Uncharted 2: Among Theives. WarDevil: Unleash The Beast Within. MLB '09: The Show (Import title) PSN - Burn, Zombie, Burn. Flower. Fat Princess. The Punisher: No Mercy. Trash Panic. Trine.

Quality titles for 2010 releases: Agent. God of War III. L.A.Noire. The Last Guardian. ModNation Racers. Quantum. Twisted Metal (Maybe). The Agency. DC Universe Online.

There are a few others missing too.

As for multiplatform titles you can check out IGN's list (I've linked the AU list of titles which is generally shorter than the US list so you can check that out too).

IGN AU PlayStation 3 Release List.
Quality multiplatform 2009 releases: Modern Warfare 2. Bioshock 2. Ashes Cricket 09. NFL 10. FIFA 10. NHL 10. PES 10. Batman: Arkham Asylum. Just Cause 2. Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2. Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. Alpha Protocol. Brutal Legend. Assassin's Creed II. Red Dead Redemption. Borderlands. Mafia II. Singularity.

Now if you can't find enough titles (do some research on them) to keep your fancy there then you should buy a Wii.;)

You're going to spend $400 on a console just for mario which you'll play just once?

pfft. Mario Galaxy. Mario Kart, Mario Party, Wario, Smash Bros etc. Lots of games to play. Then you have like Wii sports, Wii Sports Resort, Wii Play.

I just wasn't sure if people thought the Wii was over rated/didn't meet their expectations.

I'm guessing he will play Mario Kart and Smash Bros. Brawl more than once...

Not to mention Mario Galaxy (which won numerous GOTY awards in 2007), which is also getting a sequel is worth more than a single play through.

'New Super Mario Bros. Wii' was also announced at this year's E3 and is a 2D Mario game with simultaneous multiplayer capabilities that looks fantastic.

I personally don't think there are a lot of good PS3 games coming out. Modern Warfare 2 and Gran Turismo 5 are the only must buys on that previous list. I suppose you could mount an argument of God of War 3 and Uncharted 2, but I haven't played the prequels to those games and I doubt if they both have any replayability.

But then again not everyone plays games just because they have 'replayability' or online.;)

Have you got inFAMOUS yet?

That's why I said: "I personally don't think..." ;)

No, and i'm probably not going to either. After reading the inFamous thread, most of you have stopped playing it and are just searching for shards. I really couldn't care less for collecting things (e.g - killing the flying rats in GTAIV).

I might rent it out down the track because it's definitely a game you would only play twice at the most.

I guess 40+ hours just isn't enough for $89 anymore.

You could probably halve that time figure because, as I said, I don't care for collecting things or doing repetitive side missions.

I could probably knock those 20 hours off in a week.

After I've finished with it I would probably go back to GTAIV for some open world carnage (as I did last night and the night before).

Don't let me get to you, I love online and mulltiplayer games more than most people.

Unrelated, but has anyone seen that On_The_Prowl poster lately? ;)
