Some great stats here, wowee.

Pity every mention of Tommy in the press has to be accompanied by bringing up the drug business of last year. I can imagine at his Brownlow presentation, Bruce saying, "A few years ago you were found in King Street.... blah blah ... you've come a long way since then."

Methinks Tom might be copping a tag in the last few weeks of the season. Griff will be relieved...

The tagger had better like playing in heavy traffic!

one does not simply do a effective tag on libba

just have to say:
how cheesey were the opening lines?!

TOM Liberatore got caught with ecstasy.
Now he has Western Bulldogs supporters in ecstasy every week.

Yep. Two of libbas worst performances of the year. Also two of the teams worst performances.

Coincidence?

Ssssh, they might hear you!

The trick to tagging Libba is not to try and prevent him on the inside - that's impossible. You can't stop a contested ball winner (remember when Boydy was at his peak a couple of years back and teams tried to tag him?). The trick is to get somebody to play defensive on him, but then in turn make Libba accountable on the other side, similar to what Grigg did to us in those two games.

Richmond seems to be able to stop us cause they put Grigg on Libba and Jackson on Griffen. They have a 2 way tag thing but the players are also offensive.
Libba is the extractor, so without him we struggle to get the ball to our better ball users in murphy, griffin, dahlhaus, macrae and cooney. Libba is the one. We have improved since then a lot.
Griffen is as near untaggable as you can get now. Libba is amazing though. Dogs main three being Minson, Libba and Griff is pretty good. plus a huge amount of supporting players.

AFL to reveal Bombers' fate

TOM Liberatore got caught with ecstasy.
Now he has Western Bulldogs supporters in ecstasy every week.
This is the 12-month journey of redemption taken with stunning success by the Dogs' father-son.
A year ago Liberatore was found by police slumped against a King St wall blind drunk with a tablet in his pocket, given a strike under the AFL's illicit drugs policy and banished from the club his dad is a legend at.
Today, Liberatore is the game's premier performer at the coal face.
The 21-year-old has won 150 clearances 13 more than any other player in the competition in 19 games.

Tellingly, he is the youngest player since Sam Mitchell in 2003 to wear the crown of AFL's top clearance player.
Those who think Liberatore's clearances haven't been a factor are wrong.

His prolific extractions have generated 120 points for the Western Bulldogs, the fifth-most in the league.

It is a meteoric rise that has earned him a new three-year contract with a side that has out-grunted all-comers this season.
The Dogs, under contested ball fanatic Brendan McCartney, average 11.1 contested possessions more than the opposition each week ranked a clear No.1.

No team has won the contested footy count more often than the Dogs, who have done so in 16 of their 19 games.
When it comes to Liberatore's specialty, clearances, they average 4.8 more ranked second in the AFL.
But as this column pointed out in May, the physical stuff has never been a problem for McCartney's pups.
Instead, it was the reality that their once blistering blur of ball movement under Rodney Eade, had ground to a complete halt.
From greyhounds to sausage dogs, we called it.
After eight rounds the Dogs were the worst side in the AFL at advancing the ball inside 50m with an unbroken chain of possession from their defensive 50m.
As recently as Round 17 they ranked second-last in this stat.

From Rounds 1-17 they also ranked second-last in moving the ball forward from a defensive midfield position.
Simply, there appeared to be a chronic lack of ball movement.
At the time McCartney admitted his side had been guilty of "quick kicking it" when they could use handball more often.
But like Liberatore, they have turned it around.
In the last three weeks the Dogs rank fifth in ball movement from their defensive 50m a massive improvement and they are keeping the pill in their attacking zone.
In the last three matches the Dogs have generated 82 forward half turnovers ranked No.1 in the competition and scored 120 points, ranked second.
What would the AFL's best contested ball side and its second-best clearance side look like if it could move the ball more efficiently?
We're just finding out.
