i'm not sure why no one else has said anything about this yet, but why wouldnt richmond be talking to Ashley McGrath? i saw him play several times this year and he is a great player. exceptional flair, imagine he and lil Andy crumbing together? also allows andy to continue playing further up the field on the ball? thought?

If he is available in the PSD he'd be the first one I'd go for.

Not a great or even good player, but much more handy than duds like Blake and Knobel.

i think he rates as a Good player. my b/f inlaw is a keen Lions fan and was baffled by the fact he missed the granny. and if you dont believe me, take a peek into the lions board room and see how many lions people are spewing on his apparent leavings, and omittion from the grand final. i think in terms of recycled players i think we should look at Ashley, Blake, Ackland and maybe Jon McCormack with a very late draft pic. a younger work horse in the type of a fleming. i know we delisted fleming because of his age and often poor skills, but without his hard work in plenty of games this year - we would have been bordering on pathetic(in fact we surpassed pathetic at some stages..). i think mcCormack has the same hard attitude and knows how to find the ball. but he is much younger, and still has room to improve those skills.

McGrath is bordering on good. He looks better than he is having the big bodied players protecting him in Brisbane's side. He does have good pace and ball handling ability though, and it definitely surprised me that he wasn't picked in the grand final side.

Mcgrath is a better than good. Every time he gets the ball he does something very good. He's one of the best youngsters in the league and should have played in the gf.

thats what everyone was saying about Des Headland!

McGrath, would be the first one I'd look at over blake and knobel though, but dont overate this kid too much you have to remember he is in a team of superstars that make him look like a world beater.

You would imagine with the signings of Nathan Brown & the lucrative contracts of several others clubs such as the PIES would be in a position to outbid the TIGES for this handy, but very overated player.

Spot on with the Headland call...... but at least Headland dominated games at the LKions, Mcgrath has looked good in patches - anyone can do that in a champion side.

Nope, Mcgrath actually goes in hard and shows desperation for the ball and he has alot of class. He doesn't get many full games either. He's a better player than Headland. Mcgrath reminds me of a smaller version of Martin Pike.

i wouldnt be so sure of that. if we can offload zantuck i wouldnt think he or any other out of contract player would be beyond our reach.

Sorry guys, he has also re-signed.

McGrath stays a Lion

BRISBANE Lions premiership utility Ashley McGrath has agreed to a new two-year deal.

McGrath had attracted interest from at least six clubs who were looking to entice the exciting McGrath into the pre-season draft.

But the 21-year-old, who has played 52 games under coach Leigh Matthews, opted to remain in Brisbane.

His manager Michael Quinlan confirmed the outside interest, but stressed McGrath had wanted to continue with the Lions.

"He's very happy," Quinlan said. "He's been at Brisbane and he's now looking to establish himself as a regular top-line player in a top side."

another one off the list for the PSD!!!! shame, i really liked the idea of him coming over. But know the question is, when will the OTHER key brisbane players sign up?? i imagine the further the sign up the smaller the gap in the salary cup would become.

Caracella?
Hadley?
Notting?

im against the thought of taking Knobel just because he is a ruckman. We should be looking at the HIGHEST quality player availavle. Thats what we really need down here. We need to start setting new, higher, sharper skill levels down at punt road. Knobel is a decent average ruckman, but will he do anyhting to increase our skill level? doubt it.

Caracella would be the worst thing we could do. Caracella is the ulimate example of a one-way, forward of the ball finisher. If the team is good and playing well then they will get it to him 20 times and he looks great. If the team is rubbish then he won't win his own ball and will have it 5 times and look lousy.

We won't be good enough to carry a guy like Caracella. If we were we would have stuck with Blumfield or Houlihan who are much the same player.

For the next 3-4 years we won't be able to carry anyone, no matter how good they might be in the right circumstances.

this all maybe be true, but at the moment i think we still have our fair share of weak recievers, but i doubt that any of them have the finishing skills of "the carrot seller" (love that.. im stealing it). I do agree though with everyones thoughts on him. The worst thing about richmonds problems is though, that we lack players how can WIN their own ball, and also lack players who can USE the ball in anything that resembles a "quality Player".
