Even though he was addressing his players, Claremont coach Ashley Prescott noticed the face in the crowd.
So did a few seasoned football observers who watched with interest as the figure listened intently to everything Prescott said to his charges at quarter time of last Saturday's with West Perth at Claremont Oval.
It is not unusual to see AFL scouts around the huddles during breaks in WAFL matches.
But this was no ordinary talent watcher. This was Greg Miller, Richmond's director of football, one of the game's powerbrokers.
Claremont's blazing start to the WAFL season has attracted interest from all over Australia, especially for Prescott, who started his league playing career with Richmond.
Now the Tigers are keeping an eye on Prescott's coaching development.
After all, Claremont has supplied plenty of AFL coaching staff in the past decade.
Gerard Neesham graduated from the Tigers to lead Fremantle into the national competition while Mark Riley (Melbourne) and Guy McKenna (Collingwood) have recently joined AFL match committees.
"I did see Greg there but hopefully he was looking at some of our young players for the draft," Prescott said.
