I just got back from seeing Rachel, my wife, in hospital. Those of you that don't know, she suffers with depression.
Not long after getting married, she had a break down as she faced the thoughts in her head telling her she is worthless, compared with the realisation that she finally had someone the loved her for her.
This lead to a break down and an extended period where she struggled to attend work. One day, her work suggested that she go to part time and that she would be made permanent again when she was feeling better...
She didn't get one more hour of work after this. As work was basically her only source of self worth, she was in a lot of trouble the following months, when luck/God stepped in and she found a job offer in her junk folder in her email.
She took the job, which was good for at the time, regular hours, though only during University semesters, and simple work.
The problem is, as she became more in control of her emotions and ready to achieve something in her life, such a simple job is a struggle for her and as she reads negative things about her into what most people say, she's felt like people at work are unhappy with her. That has left her struggling with anxiety every morning for the last month or so.
Anyway, she decided that she is ready to go back to doing the job she loves and is trained for, so she contacted her old work place to inquire about a job. They told her to apply when jobs are advertised. So she did, and waited and applied and waited. When she inquired what her chances were, they told her they don't want to employ her again.
So, she has a medically diagnosed illness and won't be employed because of it. In deciding to take some positive action for herself, she decided to see her mental case worker to go about putting in a claim for advocacy to get her job back. Upon being teary, as you might expect talking to your mental case worker, one of your few outlets, the case worker called in a doctor to speak with her.
That doctor then told her that if she didn't agree to be hospitalized, they would hold her against her will. Her she was trying to stand up for herself and her rights and they've just taken her rights away from her again...
Anyway, long story short. With the on, off work, medical costs all happening just after we'd bought our first house and interest rates going up 1.5% immediately afterwards, our nice cash buffer has turned into a scary debt, on top of the mortgage.
At the beginning of the year, I took to trying to win competitions to try and ease our burden, especially the one that Rach feels. Feeling that she is all to blame and that I'd be better off without her and her costs. So I've tried to win competitions, with little success. A double pass to Green Lantern was good to have our first trip to the cinemas in a long time, though the movie itself wasn't the best
.
Well, here I come to you asking for help. Rach and I are fairly private people and would prefer to know 50 people well than 500 hardly at all, which makes winning vote competitions hard.
Over the last 2 days, I have been working hard to get votes for an Optus competition. Currently second with 8 more days of voting. I don't think I can get over the line on this one without a lot of help from a lot of people, so I put it to you.
Please, if this has touched you at all, please vote each day over the period of the comp for Rach and I. We will sadly sell the prize to reduce debt and give Rach a bit of a break, but it would make Rach feel so much better.
If it has really touched you, please invite people to this group so they can help to. I am really sorry to ask this, I'm not one to ask for charity, but all I ask is a minute of your time over 8 days. It will do Rach's spirits wonders too if we got lots of support, as she feels no one cares for her.
