Assistant Coach???

Love Woosha. IMO doing a great job, players love playing for him and he seems to be very good at developing young guys and getting the best out of his older less skilled players. But sometimes on match day hes probably not the best at making tactical moves. Now he isnt the only coach like this and some are the reverse. So...

If we had another spot for an assistant coach to mainly advise the coaching panel on game day with a few moves out of left field... who would you like?

For me, before this year would've like Carey, now im thinking Buckley would be great. He wants to coach the pies in the future not doubt but would probably like a few years away from the nest to see how another clubs does it. He also has a great footy brain on him. Maybe hird?

How would you know if any of those mentioned would be any better than Woosh? If you were looking for an assistant, you would have to go someone more experienced, like a Daniher or a Parkin...

Well if they are an experienced coach you could tell from their time coaching as to how they performed match day. I also think there is value in getting someone that has just left the game from a well run club. Its very hard to tell what their worth as a coach is, im sure the interviewing process would sort that out.

From the comments i have heard him make and the articules i have read, Buckley is one switched on guy and would have alot to offer.

There's no salary cap on coaches, the Eagles with all their record breaking profit should exploit this and get the best assistant coaches money can buy. If that means poaching from other clubs then they should dangle whatever carrot is necessary to get their men.

Surely there are better forward coaches in the AFL than Darren Harris. West Coast don't have the best forwards in the game but they must have close to the worst strategies when going forward.

And Suma being the midfield coach, is he condoning that we chip around to find right targets whilst our forwards have lead 5 times each. Swear thats not the delivery he had whilst he was bagging 100 goal seasons.. He just never wants to lose his goal kicking record. Greedy so so

I think to hire any coach from another AFL team you really have to trust that the guy isn't going to stab you in the back and give away how to nullify your game plan to his old club or the highest bidder.

When you hear people say "Freo need to get more Fremantle people" they're alluding to that.

I know this doesn't happen with every assistant coach, or even close to, but some aren't very trust worthy IMO. Parkin, for example, hates us more than Robert Walls. Woosha shouldn't go near him unless he's going to knock him out.

Also, as much as it seems un-ingenuitive, it's for this reason that I'd stick with WA coaches and it's probably why Harris got him job over Shaw and those guys.

I reckon Harris is being shafted a little but that's just my conspiracy theory.

Why does Sumich get to coach the midfield and get all the glory of Judd, Cousins, Kerr when he was a forward? Why does Harris have to be the guy who is said to be in charge of a notoriously poor forward line?

Wouldn't it make sense that Sumich, if he's in line for a senior spot one day and as a former premiership FF, would be better able to construct a forward line than a guy who's just starting to coach at AFL level?

Wouldn't it make sense to give the guy who is new to AFL coaching the easy job of covering the midfield first up?

I think the truth is that there is no "forward line coach", "backline coach" and "midfield coach". There's just a bunch of guys who help Woosha out and Harris is the fella who has to deal with being a crappy forward line coach because he's new and not in favour as much as Sumich.

I guess he has to start somewhere.

If I was Woosha I would be head hunting in this order,

1. Buckley
2. Pyke -fixed cuzz just give me a smack in the chops if we ever meet ...how dare I.
3. Daniher
these would make a great addition to our coaching staff and P*** off Harris.

I don't know them personally but I think that they both mix with people who know a lot about footy and word spreads about certain things.

I doubt either of them knows someone directly inside the Eagles or anything like that but I'm sure that both know people who know people. Or at least they talk to people who know people.

I dont understanding whats stopping us from doing this. We are rebuilding off the field, taking one step back to go 2 forward on the field so why aren't we looking at the coaching staff and footy department as well?
