Well deserved Jake, and well overdue for that matter. Nice to see him continually pushing for it while others were rewarded.

Will be the best of our bunch.

What an absolute gun and future champion of this club. Arguably Macca's best decision of the year was to give him a couple of weeks in the 2's and bring him back in. Since then he has become our best forward and his ceiling is skyhigh. Can't wait till he starts taking those big grabs that he was known for as a junior. Such a presence up forward and long may debate continue as to whether he play as a midfielder or forward. Plenty of young blokes at this club with the potential to become A grade players at the club and in my mind hes at the very top of that tree.

For all our mates on this board that struggle for any light in their football world , rejoice in the fact we some fantastic young talent. Makes me want to go the footy.
Our club desperately needs blokes like Stringer , I think him and our other young guns will gradually drag people through the gates.

It seemed only a matter of time until the 20-year-old earned a Rising Star gong, with the good news delivered at recovery on Monday.

"It's nice to get some recognition over the last couple of weeks," Stringer told AFL.com.au.

"It's always nice to get individual accolades but it's mainly more about the team and getting a win every weekend.

He wants to continue the development fast-tracked by coach Brendan McCartney, who sent the young pup into defence earlier in the season and then back to the VFL to learn midfield craft.

"The amount of development that had on my game was extraordinary and it just made me such a better footballer for it," said Stringer, who was selected with pick No.5 in the 2012 NAB AFL Draft.

"I just learnt so much about playing as a forward and learning the aspects of the other roles in defence and in midfield as well.

"I've been put in those situations where I've been feeling uncomfortable, and you always just have in the back of your mind where you would not like to be if you were a defender.

"That's all I try to do - take my defender to places where they don't want to be."

After suffering a horrific broken leg while playing TAC Cup for the Bendigo Pioneers, Stringer said his body was "holding up really well" at the elite level.

Like most Dogs fans, he's excited by what's in store after another pre-season at the Kennel – where he's become the third Rising Star nominee in 2014 after Marcus Bontempelli and Nathan Hrovat.

"Next season should be good," he said. "We just need to knuckle down over pre-season and also make sure we finish off the year on a really strong note over the next three games."

I was there at his first game, where he stepped around Sam Mitchell, kicked a banana on his right foot for a goal from the boundary. I couldn't stop laughing hysterically, saw other doggies supporters doing the same thing. I just kept screaming out "Holy shit!!! He's just a kid!!!! And he's ours!!!"

During the qtr time break, I walked past a guy who was wearing Geelong colours. I asked him if Macca was a good coach. He said we'd win the Premiership in 3 years and that Jake Stringer was the next Wayne Carey.

He was adamant in how he spoke. I wasn't sure if he was joking...I was still buzzing after the banana from the boundary line. Ridonkulous goal. He also said, Macca built the Geelong team. Warm and Fuzzy feeling hearing that hah hah.

Keep banging them through the big sticks J Banger!

What strikes me most about Stringer is that I think his 'best' games will be the best of the entire young bunch, including Bonti and Macrae. I think Bonti and Macrae will probably perform more consistently at a higher 'normal' level than Stringer, but when Stringer goes off, his 'best' will be better than the best of Macrae and Bonti (Not to say these two at their best won't be a terror for opponents). It's a bit early to tell, but it's just a feeling I get.

I owe Jake thanks.

I have two young sons who have danced on the dark side (one threatening to be a Tiges supporter, the other the drug cheats, both due to family connnections)

I had gradually brainwashed the children away (going to our win over the Tiges this year, and brainwashing with the words 'drug cheating scum').

But the kids still wavered. Purchasing of Bulldogs guernsies helped. Taking them to the 2nd Melbourne game helped (roadkill I thought!).

Yesterday, after the Saints game, I asked the kids what number they wanted on their backs....

No 9, Jake Stringer they both said at the same time. They both looked at each other and started to argue over who was getting Jake's no. I settled it - they both can.

Thanks again to Jake for just about closing the deal on the FFC picking up two more supporters - he's that kind of player, who will excite and drag people through the gates.
