I get the feeling that clubs are realising that Talent can get you only so far... and what separates the elite from the rest is Attitude.
Our rookie list success is testament to this and I'm guessing thats why sum players are ranked differently than others.

Hmmm....King has the right attitude.....commited , hard worker , passionate , but also supremely untalented. Collard was the polar opposite of all those things.

I would still have preferred we delisted King rather than Collard.

...and thus I'm glad your not in charge.

Mediocrity rules! Go Tiges!:o

What Mediocrity are you speaking of???

no... getting the best out of your self rules....

Kingy's attitude around the club would have a larger impact on the whole playing list than Collards few goals for coburg.... he had his chance and didn't take it... kingy did and thus got rewarded... Kingy gives his all.... and yes his ability is limited... makes all the better reasons why someone like Collard should be delisted if he cant over take the likes of Kingy's mediorce talent...

Pull your head Mario.... it's getting boring.

Talent is still the primary factor of which the recruiters look for in draftees - If Jack Watts had a poorer attitude I highly doubt this would've have caused him to slip down the order.

They are related though. Attitude can determine how far a player is willing to take this talent and subsequently if a player has a better attitude it may seem like he is more talented. A good attitude in a player may make him work harder and get more out of himself. This can only be taken so far. A players natural ability will limit how far he can go and how good he can be.

As always, it is a combination of the 2 that makes a superstar.

Tell that to Foley, Moore, Thursfield, Kingy.........

Sorry to "bore you" with facts again , but I'll pull my head in when you pull yours out, because you see, Foley , Thursfield & Moore have at least some talent, that's why they're regulars in the starting 22 and King isn't. Checkmate.:thumbsu:

..and until someone with a better attitude and more talent comes along Kingy will remain on the list... . Your Collard example was rubbish. Hence my response.

i agree with mario in saying that kingy should have been delisted

i know he's a likable guy and his attitude towards the game is great,
however on the field his attitude sometimes has a brain explosion and gives away too many free kicks when hes a backman and his opponent has a scoring opportunity as a direct result of kingy's indiscretion.

i also believe that he is just too small, he doesn't win his own ball and receives most possies out wide, and as i have stated in previous posts his kicking has a lot left to be desired.

So this season if his kicking doesnt improve and he continues to give away stupid free kicks, i vote for the chop

p.s. i know this is way too early to be talking about this stuff when the season hasnt even started let alone the pre-season comp, but when you look back i would like to say in the famous words of Johnny Warren "i told you so!"

sorry boys but attitude v talent isnt that simple ....

richard tambling has the right attitude and ALOT of talent
lance franklin has talent .... NOT the right attitude (remember he's on 2 strikes ... thats the rumour)

I tend to support the arguement Kingy should be given the *%^....just because he has a great attitude and is a "real club man" we elect to keep him around for another 12 months ?.

That doesn't cut it in today's competition. If he plays like he did this year, Kingy will get a please explain come season end.

I have to disagree with you there. Despite he's lack of size Kingy is not afraid to throw himself in and under and win the hard ball. He is as tough as nails.

As for the talent vs attitude King and Collard are the perfect example. I agree with nut on this one. I'm glad we kept King who is hard working and ready to do the hard work to improve as much as possible. Rather than keeping Collard who has all the talent in the world but no work ethic and discipline what so ever.

Allegedly, without pregidous

i thought collard should still have been de-listed too, but i wouldn't be losing any sleep if kingy went also

i agree with u one eyedtiger that kingy is tough as nails, but there is just a lack of talent compared to the rest of our team let alone the rest of the competion

I would say attitude is more important. A Porsche won't go anywhere if it has no engine.

But it is worth using late pick or two or the rookie draft on a player with a questionable attitude if they have a lot of talent to offer. If they can turn that attitude around then the club could have picked up a quality player for a cheap price.

Attitude over talent every day. Very hard to alter someone's behaviours and attitudes. You can enhance talent. A lot of very talented footballers end up sitting in the pub on a saturday afternoon because they don't have the right attitude.

hislop and thommo are talked up like they are some kind of a gun mid, i doubt that bombers and port would let him go if they was that good.
