Who are your favourite? Why?

ps didn't want to include AC/DC because it would be an almost whitewash. And didn't inlude H&C, Icehouse, or Noise Works because they all suck balls.

Cog is my favourite Aussie band now, and if they keep producing albums like The New Normal, will be for many years to come.
Every single one of those bands bores the bejeezus outta me these days. But if I HAVE to, I would go for pre-Kick INXS.

I loved INXS as a younger fella and still have a special spot for them. Shabooh Shoobah and The Swing are 2 of my all time favourite Aussie albums.

But Midnight Oil were the band that cemented my love for music and desire to be a musician.

I'll never forget seeing the Oils on the Water concert on Goat Island on Rock Arena as a 10 year old and being absolutely spellbound by it. My older Sister taped it and i reckon i watched that tape over 100 times and pretty much taught myself how to play drums mimicking Rob Hurst.

Very few Aussie bands had a run of releases to match the quality and growth as what the Oils did between their 1978 debut and 87's Diesel and Dust. And while their recorded output was a bit patchy after that, as a live band they were still as intense as anyone going right up until they called it a day.

Love the Oils.

ill go with the hoodoo gurus from that list.

stone age romeos one of THE finest aussie albums ever produced, and one that as grown in reputation internationally over the last 25 years.

Ditto for me purely on the strength of that album.
Mind you I could name at least a dozen australian bands that I prefer before them.

From that list, Midnight Oil by a mile, although I don't mind a bit of Hoodoo Gurus and INXS, that is, INXS with Michael Hutchence, JD Fortune is a hack.:thumbsd:

I like all those bands but I'm not passionate enough about them to get into a smackdown.

If you'd listed The Birthday Party though you'd never hear the end of it from me. Greatest. Band. Ever.

Australian bands generally lack balls. Even Cold Chisel lack some balls - not Barney's singing but the guitar work.

I got right into Aus Crawl when they were big and still don't mind them. Also got into Hoodoo Gurus for their first two albums but they just don't do it for me. Midnight Oil I've always been indifferent about and INXS whilst I don't mind them and quite like a few of their songs are a bit poppy for me.

I thought about Birthday Party but they were'nt commercially as popular as the other bands. Living End, Silverchair, and Jet probably should have been in the poll but they all suck balls and I can't take anyone seriously if they rate those bands.

Sorry I dont think Powderfinger deserve to be named with those bands.

Its a personal thing.
They're just as popular and don't have a teeny bopper following like Living End or Silverchair.

I have no problems with people labelling them boring (I can see why they see it like that), but relative to Midnight Oil and some of thos other bands, they're no more boring.

Vulture St is as good as East and 10 to 1.

I voted for powderfinger. I reckon they go alright and to be honest I know didly squat about the others really.

I was in the CD shop last week and there was a copy of Boys Light Up for ten bucks. It's been on high rotation on the car CD player since(along with Weddings Parties Anything's greatest hits bought at the same time). I'd forgotten what a damn good debut album it was.

Hoody Gudies were good but I never were incredibly dedicated to them. Loved and hated Midnight oil at various stages, never a great INXS fan although they've had some killer songs and couldnt indentify a Powderfinger song if my life depended on it.

Cant agree about Ian Moss's guitar work for Chisel though. Some of the most passionate, haunting stuff I've heard an Australian guitarist play has been produced by him. Stuff like One Long Day and Goodbye (Astrid Goodbye) still stand up.

Silverchair is twice the band that powderfinger will ever be, plus, and is nothing at all like Jet, to compare them is stupid. Powderfingers only good song was a cover of somebody elses song.
Add that to the fact that Powderfinger is far more in line with crap like Jet then Silverchair.
Yes I love Silverchair

The only way I compared them is I can't take anyone seriously if they think they're a good band.

Which was?
