Well done Aussie on a top career still don't understand why u gave it away and probably never will but top stuff mate that goal in the GF in 97 summed u up real well ur a lil fighter and tried ur guts out and if u have lost the passion to play then i spose its fair enough that u retire but well done mate u will be sorely missed and im sorry our boyz culdnt leave u with a premiership medal

I think Aussie has some inner demons, but 226 game... and leaving on your own accord, with a contract still to run.. It is pretty damn impressive.

Hold your head high son - you've been a great servant to our club. All the best for your future aspirations. :thumbsu:

absolutely, well done aussie great stuff mate. hard to replace guys like him, always putting in 110% no matter what. well done again on a great career

ah..weird but i just saw on ch.7 sport that aussie jones has quit the club today
Yep, he had spoken about his retirement plans in interviews around Round 16-18. So I've feared the worst but kept thinking "Surely he can't just leave?"

Great player, but mentally weak. Should have gone on for another 4-5 years.

Still, I pay tribute to the man. One of my favourite players. Was considered too injury prone and small to play AFL when he was a youngster, but came in and tore the game up with his blistering pace. All-Australian '97 and '04. Another member of the '97 team gone. I'll miss him.

is this 100%? i cant see it written anywhere except here - not on afl.com or stkilda website - very suprising if true, if G-spot retires as well, thats a bit of a whole

FIORA to take AUSSIES place maybe!??!!? ;)

Aussie was expected to retire at the end of this year, so it seems highly likely. But then again, Hutchy has been known to be full of shyt on more than one occasion, so let's hope he is again!

Very bizarre decision to retire at 29, & forfeit $250K a year.

What would cause a player not to be motivated anymore at 29 and with no problems with injuries or his body? The chance to win a Premiership? The big pay packet? Not having to go to a boring 9-5 job? The camraderie of all his team mates? The fame, the publicity, the fame???

He's a long time retired, and he'll probably regret it in a few years time when he's playing with the suburban hacks for $25K a year, in front of 100 bozo's and weighing 90kg.

A sad sad ending for an obviously disturbed soul.

Assuming he plays at all ... everyone is different, and he's been doing this for 12 years or more. Perhaps the thought of another preseason is just too much. Whatever his reasons he's been a fine player over the kourney at St Kilda and I'm sure the majority of Saints supporters will wish him well for the furture, whatever it is. I certainly do.

Montagna or X would be my picks to play his role.

And why is he a disturbed soul terry? Please enlighten us all on that statement or is it once again Terry Tan talking out of his butt?

I just can't believe that a guy with that much talent and in that good form can be lacking motivation ... would have thought playing for a club which has won one flag in 110 years and lost the past two preliminary finals was a decent spur as well.

Come on Aussie, come to your senses!

That's the thing he wasn't putting in 100% every game and he doesn't believe that he will be able to in future seasons. He believes that if can't put in 100% every game then he shouldn't be playing for a team, especially one that is contending the premiership.
He sys he owes a lot to the St. Kilda FC and doesn't want to let them down. He said he had been faking it and didn't want to go through another year of just faking his happiness and form. He also said that even the money and fame were not enough if he can't do his job 100%.
Everyone still wants him to play but that's it, he's done.
He's one of my favourite players and it's sad to see him go but if it's for the best. It now gives someone like Fior or X Clarke to fill his position.
This was all in the West Australian Paper today

Most players would kill for a game, look at blokes like Rob Harvey, who bleed for the club, and Aaron Hamill, who despite medical advice telling him to stop, still plays on week in, week out, putting his body on the line and playing injured. Aussie has a chance to not only play footy, but be part of a potentially top 4 side, and his form has improved, he is 110% fit, and could play on for another 5 seasons.

He said retirement has been in the back of his mind since 2001, so something must have really troubled him back then if he's been putting off retiring for that long. He should have at least honoured the remaining year of his contract. Something is going on in Aussie's mind, he has a few problems if he's thinking like this. Don't get me wrong, I love the guy, just really upset he's decided to leave in this manner, not even a farewell game

As usual Panthers, you let your bias get in the way of objectivity.

Jones must be mentally inept to knock back $250K a year in the prime of his career and the chance to play in an afl premiership, to instead play in a suburban league for $20K! Think about it.
