Again, I'm no fan of Hewitt but he's won ATP titles 10 years in a row now, best longevity on tour and yes he's better at his profession than we are at ours. The constant bagging is getting old, Craig Tiley is the one who is the trouble with Australian tennis.

Geez you're precious aren't you? If I predicted that Molik wouldn't win the Australian Open, does that mean I'm bagging her?

FACT: Hewitt has made the 1/4 finals or better at the Oz Open JUST ONCE in 11 attempts, so yes, he is a massive outsider to make the quarters.

His game is getting old, his opponents are getting better. Like Michael Chang, Hewitt's game was good for a little while, but players with real weapons will come to the fore and usurp mere grit and determination.

I don't mind Hewitt, I always hope he wins when he plays, but year after year he has failed to improve his game and has slowly but surely fallen back to the pack. He will never be top 10 again, and top 20 is about as good as it will get. He *might* make 1 or 2 more Grand Slam quarter finals, but I think a semi is out of reach at this stage of his career.

Supposedly he has addressed his weaknesses over the break. I won't be holding my breath to see him hit >50% of first serves in or hit backhand groundstrokes anywhere but cross court.

No, of course not. My point was it seemed you pocked ur head in here just to say Hewitt wouldn't make the quarters, which is fine, but you didn't post your own 8 or anything. Then you made a point of coming in here again just to tell me Hewitt is an outsider.

So you should be able to see how it came across like all you were doing was bagging him for the sake of it.

Anyway, I enjoyed reading the rest of your post, you make some good points. I just reckon everyone is a bit too quick to right him off. If he can manage to make his game a little less predictable, he might still be able to challenge.

In the same boat as Baghdatis lin 07 Oz open last year but is coming off a better 2007 year then Marcos had in 2006 concluding with a win over Federer in the Tour Championship event in Shanghai.
