July, 1988:

Hoyton Tavern

It was a cold winter's night in Hoyton, a city known for its unforgiving temperatures. It had been a relatively steady night in the Tavern, with the beer flowing and the s**t talking at a maximum. But this night was unlike any other night prior or would be for some time. Because on this night, the future of not only Hoyton, but the entire nation of Anipor Ballek would be changed forever.

After perhaps one too many whiskeys, a few of the lads in the far end of the bar were talking about their grand plans for the future. One of them, the most creative of the group said he had come up with a solution to the boredom in the city during the winters.

"You see there's this game they were playing up north in Australia," the man said to his semi-drunk friends. "It's called Australian rules football, and it is absolutely bananas."

The friends laughed "oh yeah? what is it?".

The man continued despite the looks he was receiving from not only his friends, but the patrons around the establishment. "It's a game with a funny shaped ball, oblong, and you have to kick it between posts to score, with the winner being the team with the most points at the end...." and so he explained the game.

Despite a few laughs throughout, soon some of his friends were beginning to understand and then the question came. "So what is the point of this story?" one asked.

"We can make it happen here," Mobbs said unveiling his grand plans for the Hoyton Football League.

July, 1988:

City Hall

The next day, Mobbs laid out his plans for the Hoyton Football League to the major and fellow delegates on the big table. "You see, my plan is to have 10 teams from across Hoyton. It's a big enough city so could easily have enough representatives," he said. "We would just need to find about 20 a side and we can give the people something to be excited about."

"Okay, but what would be the plan for team ownership?" Mayor JT_the_Man said. "Well sir, that's the best thing, it's open for anyone who would like to run a team. "I will personally fund one team, and I reckon there will be plenty more who are keen as well. "I know for a fact the likes of Pie 4 Life and haydo are among those would could take up team ownership."

"And I, Mobbs? Could I own a team?" the mayor responded. "Of course, in fact I reckon I've got the perfect side for you, the Gourge Galahs," Mobbs quickly answered.

"Interesting, you have me intrigued, could you outline all your teams?" JT said with a grin.

"Absolutely, so there's the Galahs, there's my Nanburton Dingoes who I will take over. "I know Pie 4 Life is keen on the Hoyton Barbarians, so it means there are seven teams up for grabs. "We are able to use them on a first-come, first serve basis. These are the Cenduce Cockatoos, Irindale Emus, Larricester Sparrows, Morley Miners, Rich Rise Marauders, Rimula Wallabies and Willumbeen Wanderers."

And with that, the mayor and Mobbs shook hands and the deal was done.

Aussie rules in Anipor Ballek.png

August, 1988:

Coaches begin lining up for inaugural HFL season

Mobbs dream of Australian rules football in Anipor Ballek was quickly taking shape, with the Hoyton Football League having six coaches signed up within the first week of searching for coaches. PMBangers was the first one to voluntarily sign up as coach of the Morley Miners, and it triggered a number of moves across the city. First up with Headless who was unaware there was a red and blue side, or even a competition happening, but once notified, jumped on board given the new coach was a fan of anything years ago. Then came Tarkyn_24 to take up the reigns as the coach of the Cenduce Cockatoos, the new-age take on the black and white of the Collingwood AFL side, instead with the singular black stripe.

The appointments meant just four teams remained available for the inaugural season, with the Irindale Emus, Larricester Sparrows, Rimula Wallabies and Willumbeen Wanderers still with open vacancies. Coaches will be sought out if roles remain open.

January, 1989:

haydo, Grocadoc assigned clubs, as captain-coaches put in place for remaining sides

With the Hoyton Football League just a couple of months away from its historic first bounce, a couple of regulars around Hoyton were awarded coaching roles with haydo handed the reigns at the Irindale Emus and Grockadoc given the opportunity at the Rimula Wallabies. It leaves the Larricester Sparrows and Willumbeen Wanderers as the only clubs without a standalone coach on the eve of the season.

ROUND 1:

Willumbeen Wanderers vs. Cenduce Cockatoos
Nanburton Dingoes vs. Rich Rise Marauders
Irindale Emus vs. Gourge Galahs
Larricester Sparrows vs. Hoyton Barbarians
Morley Miners vs. Rimula Wallabies

It will be the first of an 18-game season starting in March, with the top four sides reaching the finals series and playing off in knockout semi-finals.
