Haven't had a chance to see much of Bendigo this year....anyone tell me how Austin Lucy has been going.

Noticed earlier in the season that on occassions he had moved to the forward line. Now I believe he was drafted as KP backman, after all he was the U-18 All-Australian fullback last year.

Anyone be tempted to give him a taste of AFL footy this year??

Most Bomber fans probably already know, but I'll tell you guys again. I grew up, and played footy with Austin for the Caloundra Panthers for 5 years. I know his style of play, how fast he is, and how good his skills are. No bias here, but you guys have a gem on your hands. Great pace, good kick on both sides, and is a of great build.

When I played with him, he was primarily used as a forward in the under 12's to under 14 years. When we both played Under 16's (We joined the Brisbane league in under 16's), he was used mostly in the centre, with the occasional stints in the forward line. He size, agility and pace was great for us when he played in the centre. He created some real good plays for us.

When he played state he was used as a backman. At first I was quizzed, since he never played full-back with Caloundra. However, my opinion soon changed because he just looked like a natural in defence when I was watching him in the state championships.

He's a great pick-up for you guys, not only for his size and pace, but for his sheer footballing ability. He can basically play any position you give him. A utility.

Can't wait for him to debut. :thumbsu:

I hate writing off kids, especially first year players and Lucy was one I was really excited about. But I'm just not sure he'll make it.

Just seems to be lacking a bit of smarts and skill. And I'm not sure he plays tall enough to fill the position he was drafted for.

Hope I'm proven wrong.

That's the impression i got from seeing a few games on tv. Hope i'm proven wrong also.

What about Jay Neagle? From what i saw on tv he didn't look much chop. What are his chances?

I haven't seen enough of Jay to make that call.

He was bottom age, and didn't play a lot of junior footy. Only spent the one year in the TAC Cup from memory. So he probably has more development to do.

Not going to go out on the limb as far as Longy has but he still has a long way to go. At the moment he is an average half back who shows a little dash. His disposal isnt always great and i cant see him getting a game this season.
