If you judge a team by there success then the Australian Netball Side would have to rate at the very top given the international success over the last decade +.

How about the Box Hill Eskimo/Ghanian/Quetzlcoatl Indian lesbian Parents without Partners? They meet every Wednesday in the back room of the Mavis Chapstick Community Centre and discuss macrame. Our cricket team is clearly the best of that lot but, I think that around half of the worlds top ten squash players are Australian, but i could be wrong.

...but a close second is the All-Australian team...the International rules series was the best i've seen

the reason that could be an alternative, you look at the level of skill / athletisism, and even though they don't play anyone internationally, the fact that they are full blown professionals in a very tough domestic comp, the cream from that IMO would be a better team than a few of our other international teams going around ala our lawn bowls team, despite the fact we are world champions at that too.
