Do you ever find yourself operating in auto pilot?
You do the things that you normally do, instead of what you were actually intending on doing.
For example:
The girlfriend and I car pool to work most mornings. Every now and then we go our separate ways, but I will still sometimes turn down the street of her work. I don't realise I've done the wrong thing till the last second.
Anyone else have the same experience?

Yeah if I'm driving from Horsham to Melbourne I'll often have large patches on autopilot because I've done it so many times.
Also if my housemate is carrying on about some guy/girl that has annoyed her on Facebook or something insignificant, I'll just go autopilot and agree noncommittally to whatever she's whinging about.

As soon as i leave work, i'm on autopilot. The amount of times the wife has asked me to pick something up after work and i've just driven straight home is crazy. I've had to resort to sticking post it notes on my keys if i need to pick something up. First, i tried putting them on my wallet but once that went in my pocket i still forgot about it by the time i got to my car.

Do this all the time, used to drive about 45 mins to work at 110km an hour the whole way. Some days I'd like "wake up" half way through and freak out. Good thing no Roos were in my way.

I do this all the time with the mrs, but it usually ends with her asking me a question, and me having no idea what she said

Currently I feel like my whole life is running on auto-pilot.

Certain personal stresses leave my mind on another planet just about 24/7 whilst I go through my daily/weekly routines relatively unassuming of what I'm actually doing.

I am on auto pilot in the morning routine, shower shave teeth dress etc
out the door and feel like i am only waking up when i am comparing the time to the bus time table and making the decision on whether to run

auto pilot driving i genuinely scary and a worry, glad that i am not the only threat to society in this regard though

+1 for auto pilot driving too.

Had a mate in the car with me today and got about 4kms past the Canning Highway entry onto the freeway (I was northbound on the Kwinane) before it even registered with me that I'd passed it.

Sometimes I brush my teeth in the middle of the day after going to the toilet just out of good habits, I don't even realise what I'm doing until 30 or so seconds have passed.

Driving in autopilot after work always worries me. I seem to get into some deep thought and the next moment I'm pulling into my driveway.

Don't want to end up falling asleep behind the wheel. Done it more than a few times after long shifts at work. You kind of thank your lucky stars the corrugated(?) bumps on the edges of the motorway wake you up!

This often happens while driving to work at 4:30am in the morning. Normally I take turns and drive in with a work mate which isnt to bad having a bit of a yarn you stay tuned in. But if I do the solo drive in I'll lose track of like 10 minutes of driving. Really not good.

I'm also guilty of auto-pilot driving.
Sometimes I'll pass through an intersection and then snap out of it and think "Hmm, was that light green?"

Me too.

2 weeks ago, doing 82 kmhr in an 80 zone.

Was a 70kmhr zone.

$180 fine and 1 demerit.

It has made me concentrate the **** up.

Ladies and gentlemen, the stereotypical Western Australian
