I was watching the "ask sando" video on our afc.com.au website and he was asked whether Brodie smith will play more in the midfield next year. Sanderson said he will, he'll spend more time in the middle, it's now vital that we are able to hold onto Henderson for his run off hbf.

Smith will be extremely damaging playing forward of the center, we all saw what he did to the eagles when he played in bursts through the middle. Can't wait to see how he goes in there next year, this kid has talent to burn and could put that little bit of extra polish we lack in the midfield. He's almost too good to leave out of the backline because I never actually see him lose a contest, he always breaks even at worst, very good player.

He will be even more damaging for us forward of centre because of his fantastic penetrating kicking and decision making, has good speed too. He could do the damage for us whilst the opposition are trying to negate our other gun mids, will be interesting to see how this all unfolds next year. Maybe polec will be playing smiths role next year (if we get him), hope so!

Hopefully he'll be able to get a full preseason this year, him breaking his collarbone in the NAB cup really ruined all the work he put in in the offseason. If he gains a bit of weight and muscle he could spend plenty of time in the midfield, though I think he'll still spend most of his time in the back half. We still don't have many rebounding defenders, especially if we lose Henderson.

Need to have as many options as possible to rotate players between HBF/midfield/HF.

Smith has the tools to play midfield, but we still should use him off HBF at times too. Look at Geelong with Corey, Bartel, etc; Hawks with Mitchell, Hodge, Burgoyne, etc.

Smith had a down season.. That early injury really screwed him IMHO ... Hopefully he can get through the whole season next year unscathed.

Smith ia a natural midfielder. He's no good in the air one on one when his opponent is leading. FFS play him in the guts!

Agreed. He must come in to our midfield rotations.

His composure with the footy and ability to break clear from around stoppages is first class.

The sooner he gets further up the ground the better.
