I was an absolute flog for thinking I got in front.

Yeah that was a shocker.

I would go insane if I remembered all of the bad plays I have made.

At Crown last week I had 10-7 in the BB. Flop came down 10-10-J. I bet out and a guy reraised me to $20. I made it $45 and he instantly went all in for $250 odd. I had only gotten to the table and for some reason thought he had a J and called. Fortunately his 10-A was worthless as the board ran 6 and 6 to save me. Was a really boneheaded play by me.

Melbourne Poker Champs Main Event. 650 starters, now down to about 50 left.

Blinds at 3K-6K, Antes 500.

I am in late position with 180K chips (average chip stack is about 90K) and have AJs

Good player two spots to my right who had been bullying the table raises to 19K. To stop him getting out of line I reraise to 53K. He pushes all in for his remaining chips. I am forced to call another 75K into what is now a 140-150K pot. I go into the tank for some minutes and even though I know that I am up against a big pair or big slick given the player and his willingness to push his above average stack, I convince myself that I am pot committed and have the correct odds to call. So I do and run into AK.

The king flops and I am almost crippled, eventially cashing in 40th. I was playing well enough to go deep into the money until one dumb play killed my chances.

"Pot odds" and "Pot commitment" work a bit differently in tournaments in my view. Sometimes it will be correct to fold to a big raise even though you may strictly speaking have correct pot odds to call. The reason is that your last 500 chips are a lot more valuable than 500 chips out of a stack of 1000 or more (in contrast to cash games, where $100 is just $100).

Exactly right, hence I should have folded my AJ when I knew I was behind. I can then continue with well above average chips.

An expensive lesson learned.

I think in tournaments you can throw away the "pot commited" line if your instincts tell you that you are dominated (would he really bluff with air? best you could hope for is a small pocket pair), especially in your situation when you still have an above average stack.
