the thing that shits me about hiphop in australia is that aussie hiphop fans generally don't even have a clue about the genre. they wouldn't be able to articulate the difference between this guy who can't even rap (no structure no nothing, just talks over a shit beat made by a pre-pubescent child) and someone that can, besides the image factor. doesn't surprise me though, most people that claim to like hiphop here are just wannabe wiggers that enjoy the genre for the stereotypical gangsta kna'mean image, yet wouldn't even know what a ****ing 'bar' of writing is.

All in all, a shit pointless genre.

And what's with the obsession with money, cars and all the shit that you cant take with you?

All these knobs seem to like wearing their wallets or interest repayments around their necks as a status symbol. To me its a symbol of sickness and misguidedness.

Pulp em all, and use as fertilizer.

Yep lets say ALL hip hop/rap is garbage because of a terrible rapper from melbourne and the fact they like expensive things . Most rappers grew up in lower class families from the projects and wouldn't have had access to many luxuries if any, hence when they make it in the entertainment industry the first thing they go out to get are jewellry, cars, expensive alcohol to show that they are no longer part of the projects and have "gotten out" in a sense.

There is terrible music in all genres and to just dismiss an entire genre of music means you are missing out on alot of good stuff. I mean how would i sound if i said all rock/metal is crap because they have an obsession with drugs, alcohol and bangin groupies.

I'm a huge aussie hip hop fan - but I'm probably the least stereotypical hip hop fan in Australia (ie. I'm white and I know it)

I don't go to many gigs because of the ******s that support the scene.

I think if you actually knew anything about the aus hip hop scene you would realise that almost none of the music is "gangsta rap" like you have suggested.

No, he shouldn't be congratulated/encouraged for that shit.

Thats harsh, he might be a terrible rapper but he only learned english a few years ago and hes actually a decent guy. Hes doing what he likes and is getting famous from it.
But yeh i do hope he improves over time.

At least he's out there doing something other than harassing passengers at Noble station

These are the talentless stereotypical 'gangsta' rappers that generally make commercial/mainstream music that doesn't set a trend but rather follows one.

In the last couple of years though, there has been a trend where rappers with actual talent are getting more of a go in the spotlight (eg lupe fiasco).

There are a lot of great rappers out there, but to someone that doesn't follow the genre or knows much about it, you wouldn't have heard of them. That's ok though - if you don't follow a genre then you don't follow it, and of course you're going to make a judgement based on what music from that genre does reach the spotlight.

I'm not talking about the aussie hip hop scene, which I know is far from it. I'm talking about aussie hiphop fans - there is a massive difference. Most aussies that like hiphop (and will somehow refer to it as rnb) don't like aussie hiphop, they like the typical bullshit rap because they are attracted to the tough guy/guns/drugs promotional aspect of it (and there is a difference between discussing and promoting, but that's for another thread). Even if these w***ers like eminem, 95% of them wouldn't be able to describe what eminem's greatest era was, let alone what aspects of rapping his strengths are.

Talk to most aussie hiphop fans (who can't even differentiate between hiphop and rnb), and they will stare at you blankly when the words 'punchline', 'bar', 'multi-syllabic rhyming', and 'delivery' are used. At least a high proportion of the yanks that claim to be fans of the genre have some form of clue about these things.

The main thing that has pleased me about hiphop in the mainstream in recent years is that it seems as though more people continue to get sick ot the try-hard gangsta promotion bullshit and are appreciating the alternative hiphop styles where the subject matter is actually worth listening to.
