Why are there so many damm good Films made about America's National Past time?

Just look at movies like The Babe, Soul of the Game, A League of their own, Major League 1&2, The Fan, Cobb etc etc All quality, its a good effort when you consider that most games are so slow and boring to watch.

My opinion is that the sport has so much character and tradition and men have a great opportuniy to become Heroes and go down in History alongside names like Ruth, Cobb, Gehrig, Robinson, Di Maggio, Aaron, Ryan etc. It's just a pity that nowdays it is has become like most other American sports and is completely money driven and the players only care about making an extra buck or two and don't worry about screwing the fans or the games reputation to get it.

Harry your a hard man to please.

The Natural was far to sentimental and nostalgic for me just couldn't get into it was a pretty cool scene when he smashed the ball into pieces I will admit, and Kevin Costner mowing lawns doesn't exactly whip me into a frenzy so thumbs down for Field of Dreams as well.

I love most baseball films, but hate the game. Ironic eh.

One of my favourite comedies are still Major League 1 & 2 (Yes, as someone said, number 3 was garbage)

I loved 'A League of their own', loved 'Rookie of the Year' in like '94, loved 'Little Big League' (a 12 year old managing a baseball team is pretty cool when your 12 yourself. me: "Wow, I could coach Collingwood!" :D)

Hell, I even liked 'Angels in the Outfield'! :D

What about that movie with Matt LeBlanc and the chimpanzee? Great family entertainment with a message, namely that a chimp has more acting ability than Matt and is a better baseballer than any paid Baseballer will be!

Major League is terrific - very funny for a formula movie.

Hey, what league were you in last year?
California Penal.
Never heard of it - how did you get there?
Stole a car.

Aren't these guys a little bit past their prime?
Most of these guys never had a prime.
Hey, this guy's dead!
Well cross him off then.

A League of their own.

Geena is a babe.....;)

for the love of the game.......

I was actually thinking that the other day after I saw the preview ofr a new film called "The Rookie" it is unusual how so many baseball movies are made, we need more ice hockey films me thinks.

The way she says "Well cross him off then" is a ****er.

What about this one:

Wesley Snipes- "Willy Mayes Hayes. Run like Mayes, hit like Hayes".
Coach after seeing him bat- "you may run like Mayes but you hit like ****".

Major League always brings back memories of cross country running.

Whilst the rest of the school was cross county running, we were bolting from Parliament Station to the Bourke St cinemas to make the Matinee session. It's hard running all that way carrying your schoolbag. Still not sure how we got away with it though.

Was funny the next day, when asked how I did in the run, in front of the whole class, "pretty good, we made it!" Chuckles from the back.
