What happened to the old style of play by picking up your man. I know the game is changing these days with switching play etc etc.

I do have a slight recollection of games we had won in the past, on most occassions this was when we played direct footy, straight down the guts, and we won a contested ball or two. As usual there are too many passengers on our team. As soon as it gets tough they go missing.

I don't like to put the blame on players but everyone can see there was a fair few not earning their pay out there tonight. As a long time supporter I am very disappointed after that so called effort tonight. The future does not look bright from where I am sitting, unless it is a magpie, hawks grand final!

When you've got the ball, you don't generally worry too much where your man is. So when you turn it over with alarming regularity, it's going to look like we're not manning up. Don't turn the ball over and problem solved.

Weird isn't it. I was at the game tonight, and I was amazed at the way Hawthorn mangaged to really congest the centre of the ground when we had the ball in our back half.

Hawthorn did not man up at all. Not one bit. They all got in a zone, and forced us to kick to blokes who were under pressure, or standing still, or to a contest. More often than not we coughed it up and they all fled forward in numbers.

I understand where you're coming from, tanker, but sometimes it's just not gonna happen for us. Especially when we display ordinary skills - we get killed on the rebound.

Coaches have taken up bits and pieces from other sports, and the zone defence of both basketball and soccer have really come into our game over the last few years.

An because all our attacks are setup by our backmen they need to run off an create so ass soon as theres a turnover the other teams have loose men everywhere.
Midfielders need to get back more often to help setup attacks from the defensive half, so that we dont see our defenders trying to run the ball up around the middle of the ground.
