Dimma loves his battlers.

They literally won us the flag.
Bellis, Kmac, S. Grigg (Premiership player), Houli, Townsend, Caddy, Lambo, Broad, Castagna.

Build the culture. Don't get impatient with it. Dont go Collingwood. Don't offer out blank cheques because premierships aren't bought (#lolnorf).

They are the byproduct of a well oiled machine. If you want the ball more than the other guy, you win. Simple.

Set example. Maric and Morro, knew they wouldn't make the side, but still left everything on the field.

Nurture the kids, You have to play like this. This is how we play here. You have a go.

Lloyd and Miles threatening anyone who isnt a backman to have a bad game.

We are a team of heart. And that's what wins premierships.

A big toast to the RFC on an amazing 2017 season, and an even bigger toast to Dimma and his battlers.

What exactly is a "battler" in football? The way people talk about it, it sounds like "a spud that works hard"
Gives his all. Sets example.

Dimma copped it early years in the rebuild, but they are the foundation the premiership was built on.

I think our players and list have much more pure talent than people give them credit for but the basic premise of the OP is correct. Well said. Extra kudos for saying Shaun Grigg, Premiership Player correctly.

I wouldn't call Conca a battler, it's his body that's let him down.
In comparison to the players mentioned( BELOW) in the OP ,you would have to say he is. His injuries i agree have been his detriment, but his skills are a massive let down.

His skills haven't been great but I think his injuries played a part in that. His work in heavy traffic is fantastic though.

A battler is a nice term to describing a list clogger.

Exactly the only guy on that list i reckon could be described as a battler was/is Grigg but even then he is very talented just had 2-3 seasons of garbage high possession football that didn't suit his skill set.

Guys like Morris, Petterd, Thomas, Nahas, Lonergan, Gordon etc... were battlers, hardworking, cheap mature AFL bodies who were stopping our kids from getting a game. And except for when Morris played against the crows its the first time i can remember Dimma constantly choosing youth and talent over that type of player in a season.
