He's been out of the main squad for a long time now due to injury & had big wraps when first drafted to Hawthorn. How do you all think he went yesterday with his return to the squad?

He looks like he's in great physical shape, he's a heavy hitter & isn't scared to put his body on the line. He faded out at the end of the match but i think he's a much better fit to the side than some of out current players, i'd give him Murphys spot any day of the week..

Is it it just me, or does his appearance & the way he runs remind you of Judd? (wish he was as good).

Anyways, i hope he can string a few games together & cement a spot in our side, we need some pace & some hard bodies out there because we seem to be lacking that at the moment...

Time to shine Muston!! :thumbsu:

Good thread.

I like him and think he needs 3-4 games in the seniors to show what he's got. You can't bring him in for a tough road trip and drop him straight away.

With him on one wing and Young or the other, we have two players that can kick over a zone. :thumbsu:

Been calling him Juddy Muston since he was drafted ;)

Also, if any player deserves 22 games straight without the fear of being dropped, it's musto. Will be fantastic if he can get a solid hit at senior footy

I thought he was really good. He's throwing himself at the ball and is showing signs of having worked on his deficiencies. After everything he's been through, it's a wonder he can still run. I think we need to cut this kid some slack and reward him for his effort. Deserves to stay in the team for at least a few weeks.

Needs to work on his hands in close. A tad slow with them, but no alone with it. Want to see him rip a few 65M bombs.

Also needs to work on hitting targets with the shorter kicks. But I agree, needs at least 10 uninterrupted games to see what he's got. It's not like we have anythin to lose Gould be in til the end of the season!

Great thread...

Thought we saw signs yesterday of a really different Musto... really really pleased with his performance- and think only now are we seeing even a fraction of what he can offer. He's only just NOW ready physically and mentally to offer up what other draftees offer up...

Very quick... tough... personally would like to see him rotated through the midfield (centre bounces)- think he could, over time, be very damaging.

Just let him play...

You weren't alone, but I guess the game plan doesn't really allow for it in the back half, which is where he found himself most of the time last night.

Love him in the seniors - he at least showed some desire to my eyes. Peterson and him really took advance of their inclusion.

Really hope he gets another chance next week with the big ins.

this guy is a jet! must be allowed to play to his strengths, love it when he kicks long to the forwards, thats what got us the first goal yesterday

Compared to some of the other lemons we are giving games to he's a star!
Keep at it Beau.:thumbsu:

I have been a huge advocate of him getting a game this year. He has three solid games in the box hill for the start of the season. I recommended starting him of half back just like Brad Sewell when he came into the team and when he found his feet move him onto the wing. He could be a genuine weapon and has played in defence this year at box hill has great closing speed and can punch the ball away.

Muston for mine has alot more upside than the other guys from the 2's, I would give him a settled run in the 22, what is there to loose from the year now. Ditto Dowler on this point.

Like someone said, he doesn't look comfortable kicking short. I think he is one of the guys hurt by our current game plan.

Would like to see him given licence to get it, run & kick long.

Finally he looks physically ready for AFL.

He brings a bit of urgency to our side which we need badly. Interesting to see Roughie play with some urgency yesterday and how he finished the game.

Agree with the poster who said we should use Musto on occasions at centre bounces. One thing we lack in our midfield rotations for centre clearances is a rangy mid with a bit of reach who can pluck the ball once or twice a game before it hits the deck. Lovett-Murray (which just killed me to watch) did it to us the week before. Musto must play for the rest of the year.

Was def a bright light yesterday. It was good to see someone take the initiative and take a player on and kick it long. When we did that, it was surprising how many more opportunities we created. It just baffles me that we keep persisting with always looking sideways instead of straight ahead where the two big sticks are.

I saw him kick two massive goals against coburg about two weeks ago and if he could replicate one of those per game could present a valuable asset with his potential to fill the hole dew left. However I have heard he suffers from a serious problem of inaccuracy when kicking to target s within 20-25 m.

Mustons challenge, should he be selected next week, is to show the same if not greater urgency in his game.
His confidence will grow with gametime, but he's got the talent to stake a claim for a regular spot.
His skills can be a bit hit and miss, but when he decides to take the game on and kick long he's a weapon that we don't have enough of.

Jury is still out on whether he can cut it at the top level, but I really liked some of his efforts yesterday.

Average footballer. Let's not get too excited about how one performs against West Coast. They are a very, very average side, which shows how bad we are. Tries hard, but disposal is not great. Have seen nothing to suggest that he will be anything but a 50 game footballer.

Time to take the rose tinted glasses off folks.

give the guy a chance! its not like he has had much.

He is fast, puts his body on the line and is good in the air. Kicks long but not always a great decision maker. Like Young can run and carry. Worth persevering with in a team with a lot of one paced players. I have a feeling his best is still to come and I hope it is with the Hawks.

Jury still out. Looked ok yesterday and hopefully he can get a good run at it and find his feet at the level. Could be handy as a half forward flanker, but ensuring he doesn't come past the wing into the defensive half. Then drive it long into Buddy and Roughie

Please, please, please, 100 pleases just play both him and dowler for a good stretch of games without fear of being dropped. Best way to gain confidence and take a few risks.
There is absolutely nothing to lose. Best case scenario - we gain two players who can seriously play.
Worst case scenario - after a good run (say, 10 games) they get dropped back to the VFL which is exactly where we started.

Season pretty much gone (barring a miracle), so I don't see why we shouldn't start experimenting.
