For a second I though the thread was about him getting the Sack.

Wouldn't supprise me if miller is going throught the club to workout why we have stuffed up in the last ten years.

My deepest apologies :D

We used the pick that we would have given up for Cloke to get Mark Coughlan. I'd say that was a win for us.

Dean Rioli was not elligable for father-son for us but was for both Fremantle and West Coast yet they both passed on him. In fact all clubs passed on him and he was taken as a rookie-list player by Essendon.

Campbell Brown was not elligable for father-son either. He was taken before we had our first fraft pick. He went 32nd and Rodan went 33rd. We'd traded away our early picks to get rid of Daffy's contract and pick up Stafford.

Call for Beck to be sacked by all means, but none of these represent good evidence. Taking Fiora instead of Pavlich, Brown or Spriggs, taking Poyas instead of Paul Champman or Giansiracusa and taking Pettifer instead of almost anyone else are worse decisions.

OK but if pettifer comes on well....remember to pat his back.
i wouldn't give him up for lost just yet....Gary ABLETT was kinda average at the same time of life...if i remember correctly.

Coghlan is not a win ..yet.......if he comes on like he should then yes he will be, cloke has been nothing short of a revelation in a gf side, coghlan has had a stirling half season for a side that finished 14th but i digress.

rioli: yes no father/son rule, but the rioli name is synonymous with the RFC and shame shame shame we didnt pick him on our rookie list or with our last draft pick, he has oodles more talent than krak whom we picked at 42. go figure..........

and Im aware cambell brown was taken b4, but comeon, these boys are richmond boys, we should be keeping tabs on these kids, and if they seem to have talent then we should move heaven and earth to try and get them, you mean to say becky couldnt see brown was going to be a readymade afl player? to hell with stafford we shouldve maneouvered to get him.....dont get me wrong, its gr8 stafford looks like he'll work for us, but it was a gamble I SURELY wouldnt have taken, i would have gone for cambell brown.

Its just overall the whole drafting strategy has been a shambles, completely concur with your last paragraph, thats enough to make one cry

I am surely not the only one who has been completely underwhelmed by what Cloke has done at Collingwood!!! Please look beyond the hype and see a player who has so far made his name playing loose across half back. Let's see how he goes when he stands a quality forward. For point of comparison, Ty Zantuck is a similar type of player but has earnt his stripes playing and beating the likes of Matthew Lloyd.

I would suggest that Richmond wouldn't have taken Campbell Brown because of who his father is!!! Around the time we appointed Frawley as coach, we were told in no uncertain terms by Malthouse that there was no way he would come anywhere near a place where Mal Brown had any influence. (Malthouse probably was a sure thing to go to Collingwood anyway, but the point still remains)

Around this time it apparently became Richmond policy to not even mention the name Brown. I read an interview at the time with Brayshaw (or was it Malone then?) who was asked repeatedly about the influence Brown was having and each time was met with a straight bat.

I seem to recall Zantuck playing the loose man role like Cloke for a half against Hawthorn last year where he racked up 18 possessions in the loose man role.

I was going to start a thread about Richmonds recruting if there wasn't already one up.

Take a look at some of the duds your club has got in recent years.

You go through the list and whether its high or low picks, most of them are duds.

And the last 2 years: I reckon Rodan is the only decent one from 2001 and last year you got Schulz, Fleming, Nicholls and Sipthorp. You'd want to have all those four players become decent AFL footballers otherwise 2002 will go down as another wasted year.
