Begging for Money! $$

If a beggar asks me for change I say nope. Fact is your better off donating to the Salvo's or like-organisations, and if you're paying taxes a portion of it is going towards social support and programs. And true buskers are street performers, not beggars.

I tend to always give them money, and get more than my money's worth of self-satisfaction. I don't know how I'll cope if i ever go to India or somewhere ****ty like that.

In london a friend of mine was asked by a beggar for money. She had sandwiches she had packed for lunch so she gave them to the beggar. The beggar responded by throwing them in her face!!! Nice!

The other one was the guy at central station in Sydney who walks around asking for money from people saying he needs to get a train to Wollongong or Canberra or Melbourne to see his girlfriend who is having a baby. He doesnt all the time and he asked us and we told him he could eat our collective shinola because we knew his tricks. The beggar responded by saying if we told anyone he would be the living bejesus out of us!!

****ing Dorkstain!!

And sometimes I do give the odd smoke or some change, I once had to try and get 20c for a phone call so some of them are actually being genuine, it's just a bit much when you get bugged dozens of times in one short journey!

Why didn't you try a 1800 Reverse?

Maybe because that particular number didn't exist at the time. :p

And it was an important call and wouldn't have looked good if I'd called reverse charges. ;) Was pretty bad, I thought I had the change and then didn't so I had to ask people. :o

For a while there was an awful lot of kids from posh private school getting around Melbourne pretending to be homeless and begging for change. I used to see a lot of beggar types through work, and can pretty much say that the average person on the street with their hand out is looking for easy money, not help or food or anything you might think useful.

It's common knowledge that begging is nothing more than an organised scam, and most of the money collected lines the pockets of the "Mr Bigs" who put them at the spots where they beg.

This is true in some places, but I don't think that every crackhead is out there working for some Fagin like mastermind.

Hey BB does he have sort of longish white hair, and drag a trolley around? Cos there is one that lives in Balmain, in my street, in the front of some offices, and he also has a phone. He has a whole setup there, mobile phone, coffee purculator (sp?) etc.

And when he takes his trolley on the bus and goes in to the city each day he pulls out a wallet to buy his ticket.

So clearly he has money, he just doesnt want to pay to live like the rest of us do.
Is he the same one who used to hang around Circular Quay and charge people to pat the dog about 5 years ago?.

The idea that there is an organised ring with Mr Bigs is a bit over the top.

On the other hand beggers are very vunerable and easy targets. Other aggressive types can use threats of violence to demand a cut, or can insist that an area is thiers and demand a payment for it use.

Why beg for 10 hours when you can threaten to beat someone and take the money that they have 'earned'?
