Was just reading the write up on this kid on the rfc website. I must say I haven't watched him play at all this year as I didn't watch any Coburg games however the write up seems very promising. Anyone know a bit more about this kid and do we have a player on our hands?

Yeh we have a good player. Would be nice if he grew a bit taller miraculously. Shuts down the oppo no.1 fwd each week and often racks up 20+ possies the other way.

SumTingWong is the man with all the answers though. ;)

Yeah, sounds like they really rate him as a full back.:thumbsu:

Give him a bit of job security with a senior spot, play him at full back every game try and get him to come out of his shell a bit. to be a full back though you need to be a general down there. He will need to be pointing and telling people to man up, etc. because that's just what full backs do.

I still think he could be an incredible third tall. Why bother making him into a fullback that will forever struggle with height, when he's already perfect for third tall. He can shut a player down, and offers plenty on the rebound with his great skills.

Interestingly they mentioned his agility as a weakness which wouldn't suit a 3rd tall role I wouldn't think.

He does the job perfectly fine at VFL level (I know it's a lot different compared to AFL) and he's played on the likes of Joe Daniher. How about we give him a go before jumping on his back about being too small for the position. Darren Gaspar was only 192cm wasn't he? And he was a gun.

Just an inch too short to play FB as alluded to, he just reminds me of Josh Gibson in every way, bit of an afro hairstlyle, starts his career on the rookie list...seems like a good third tall. Darrou has more attacking elements to his game though.

I watched him play on Daniher and he wasn't tall enough. He played well, but the only reason Daniher didn't kick a big bag was because he was spraying them everywhere. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge wrap for Darrou, I just think his ability with the ball in hands, in combination with his size, makes him a 3rd tall.

Yeah but Gaspar played in an era when key forwards were around his height.

Tim Clarke's review pretty much sums it up nicely although he did display a little poetic license when mentioning how he kept Daniher goalless. As Spluff has already mentioned Daniher could have kicked 3-5 goals on him but luckily for Darrou, and the rest of the competition, Daniher's kicking is awful:D But this was the only time all year that anybody got the better of him, which is extremely impressive for a FB playing in a crap VFL team. But apart from that for example, he played on Grimley (Hawks) who is huge and kept him goalless (or maybe kicked 1) and had 30 touches going the other way, Ben Brown from Box Hill, Bonnadio from Port Melbourne and has kept them all quiet while gathering plenty going the other way. His kicking is fantastic. He was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than Grimes, Dea, Astbury and Batchelor at VFL level which is all I can go on now. Too good for VFL, unknown quantity at AFL sums it up for me:thumbsu:

Reminds me more of a Mal Michael in defensive aspects (short, strong, courageous, straight line runner), but with more tricks when counter attacking.

Agree RM also as I've mentioned he's about the same height as Josh Gibson and he goes alright....

Why would we play him at FB when we've already got Rance and Chaplin?

I wonder who has the better pace out of Rance & Darrou ? reason being make the faster of the two 3d tall and use their speed out of defence to attack, just a thought . Getting that extra 1 or 2% can be the difference when you get into the top 8...... If they are similar well I guess it's down to form and competition for spots....

Big fan of Darrou's - seems like we might be onto a decent pick with him. Hope he gets retained or elevated if he can't stay on the rookie list anymore.

Probably too short to play FB (and with Rance looking likely to have that sewed up anyway), will probably need to work on his agility so he can become a third tall for us.

Was a great roar vision video earlier in the year of Richo visiting his Darrou's dad's Moroccan restaurant. Would have been good for Darrou's confidence. :thumbsu:

Jeez I'm excited about watching some VFL at Punt Rd next year. I've gotta get a look at Darrou. A rebounding FB that's getting compared to Josh Gibson and Mal Michael is worth a look.

Not sure who he'd push out of the AFL 22 though... There's a long queue for that 3rd tall defender spot, with Grimes currently ahead of Astbury, Batchelor and possibly Dea (although his probably more in line the Newman possie at 186cm). His not gunna push out Rance or Chaplin either.

It's gunna be tough hanging on to all these defenders in years to come!

Well we will just see how good these Defenders are next year with our own VFL team

FB: Darrou - Astbury - Dea
HB:McIntosh -Griffiths - Batchelor

If They are half as good as what we thing Richmond VFL team wont get many scores kicked against them
