I think i'm in love with this kid, he is going to be an absolute gun and I can't wait to see how good this bloke can be.

reid, thomas and cloke have the strongest hands over their hand
incredible how they can just hang on with blokes smashing their arms
i know its a ben reid thread and he is included, but i put him on par with those 2 for overhead marking
also can kick alright
and at the ground, his brother is a clone

Reid was good again last night, but was it just me, or at times did Lachie Keefe resemble Reid of a few years ago, a slightly built young man who has no fear, but has a great kicking boot.:)

I can see Keefe, Reid and Nathan Brown having a long career together in that backline, obviously once Nate returns next season.:thumbsu:

Ben Reid will be All Australian in 2011 or 2012, it will happen.:D

A couple of times, Keefe took strong overhead marks and I thought it was Reid.

The giveaway was that he didn't then fire off a 60m left foot pass that hit a teammate on the tit lace out, otherwise - very similar!

A star.

There's no doubt he will elevate himself to superstar status in the next couple of years.

Every chance of being the AA CHB this season.

Agreed, he always has his eye on the ball. Even in a contest running backward, keeps his eye on the target every time. Great mark, great kick, great player.

That is some strong hands.

Has really developed nicely Reid.

Remember when nuffers here claimed that he couldn't kick just from that one stuttering effort against Carlton?

No matter how many times some of us would claim that he was an excellent kick a lot of ppl here refused to believe it.

Now he is universally considered on these boards as being an elite kick.

Our brother's better. :p

Seriously though, he's a very good footballer. Great to see him fit and firing last year after he took a while to get going, it was just reward.

And yes, he and Sam look ridiculously similar. Exact same body shape (though Ben obviously has a bit more on it at present), very similar faces, even the exact same gait. Oddly enough, they also both look like Bruce Reid. Not the footballer, who is their father, but the cricketer, who is no relation.

Yeah, Sam will be as good as Ben, he looks exactly like Ben did about 2-3 seasons ago, he just needs time and development.

They are "modern day" defenders also, in that they not only can shut a player down, but they can damage a side so well when they get the ball themselves.

Interesting to note that Keefe probably beat Sam Reid one on one last night on most occasions, maybe Sam may be best down back also.

Very happy for Reid to be doing well in the team. I've rated him highly for a few years now but injuries seemed to hold him back until he moved to the backline in the VFL. Obviously the coaching staff always loved what he was doing but not many saw it until last year.

As for Keeffe, he's big and tall like Reid and can take a strong mark, but his movement and kicking don't seem that similar. In saying that I'm also enjoying the improvement from Keeffe.

Reid will be all Australian and for years to come as well

just love watching the lad take a strong mark as a CHB and then morph into a midfielder and waltz down the middle of the ground to deliver a lace out kick into the forward fifty. This was mentioned a few posts up but i agree that he could be the modern prototype for a backman. one that can restrict and blanket the opposition but very much create scory chains as well. absolute gun and will be all aus this year.

i remember reading in the HUN about his 'crappy' kicking by god just one dodgy kick can make such a reaction. ben has a booming left foot, penetrating and accurate. star!

His ability to negate has not really been proven yet. He still gets manhandled by the bigger key forwards in the league. It's something that IMO a player like Frawley still has over him.

Not that it's a huge win as I dont rate the guy, but Reid has beaten Kosi convincingly 3 times now. Reid also beat Mooney in the PF. He played on Roughead in round 22 and I can't recall how many Roughead kicked. I would have thought Reid at least broke even in that contest.

Reid got manhandled by Jonathon Brown. I can't recall another KF manhandling him.

Sam has just come back from shoulder surgery, he didn't play the intraclub match a couple of weeks ago, so I would expect him to take a little bit of time to get back into it. Not to take anything away from Keefe though, he looks like he could be a keeper.

On the forward vs back issue, I've watched a bit of Sam in both positions, and I reckon he's a better forward than defender. His hands are ridiculously strong, he's a good set-shot, he's quick, he can jump, he's smart, and just looks comfortable up there. He's got one of the biggest frames in footy, he just needs to put a bit of meat on it and he'll be unstoppable at CHF I reckon.

Then again, similar was thought of Ben, and he never quite clicked up forward despite showing promise, so who knows?

Now Ben is a Gun Backman now:thumbsu:

No room for Reid and Keefe in the back so I wonder which will go fwd eventually. I guess the other option is for keefe so suceed as a ruck.

Disagree we were planning on plaging this year with Reid, Nate and Taz. With Reid or taz playing a more zonal role with Maxwell ala goldsack last year.

I have no doubt Keefe or Reid could do that role of given the chance. Reid, Nate, Keefe, toovey, Harry, Maxwell will be our back six 2012 and beyond IMO

This year I expect Keefe to get games but by no means best 22, I see no reason to make one of Reid or Keefe a permanent forward though

You think Shaw will push up forward/mid from 2012 onwards? He does love a cheeky goal, and god knows he has the awareness for it.
