and think if they offer good money they could get him.
He is currently a rookie.
Not sure how you can trade for a rookie though ?
Can anyone explain how that would work ?

As others have commented, it ain't going to happen. But it's certainly possible to trade for rookies. You just have to put them on your senior list - ie you can't trade someone in from a rookie list and then put them on your rookie list. Indeed, I don't think you can trade anyone in (regardless of whether they are main or rookie listed) and then put them on your rookie list.

Like i said in another thread I think this is Freo being proactive, looking for a replacement
for a problem position.
All they can do is make a attractive offer, and see what comes from it.
