How good is Benny Cousins playing?!

He is in someof the best form of his career.
Cuzz could be forgiven for just sitting back with all these awesome midfielders in the side but he is running even harder and finishing beautifully.
The thing that could catch the umpires eye could be the fact he pushes forward a lot more this year and has already kicked a number of goals.

He deserved to win it back in 2003 but missed by just 1 vote - Geez I would love to see Cuzz win it!

Yep, he's a good shot alright.

Main concern is going to be the other gun midfielders ie Fletcher and of course Judd stealing votes. However with Judd low on form, this may be less of an issue.

Will there be enough votes to go round is the main question.

If he can keep this form up, he is no doubt a serious contender.

Cousin's looks very good this year. hes a proven vote getter, and i'd say he's on 9 so far this year. Without the hard tag, he looks very good indeed.

playing nicely. the only tag he's had to wear is not on the football field but we won't get into that again. his pushing forward and kicking a few goals a game has made him an even more damaging and dangerous game and is one of the best finishers in the game. Only Chad Fletcher has been in equal or better form this year in our midfield

Unless the umpires have finally woken up to Fletch he'll go very close indeed this year.

So far, I'd have him down for
Rd 1 (Adelaide)- 3 votes
Rd 3 (Freo) - 1?
Rd 4 (Bulldogs) - 3?,2?
Rd 5 (Brisbane) - 3 votes
Rd 6 (Sydney) - 3 votes
Rd 7 (Hawthorn) - 2?,1?
Rd 8 (St Kilda) - 3 votes

That's red hot pace after 8 rounds, in fact I'd say there'd be no doubt he's
well out in front of the competition- there's no doubt he's benefitting enormously from Judd taking the hard tag- its almost like returning to his free running, half forward days as a kid.

I can't help but think that at some point this year teams will switch the hard tag from Judd to him, so he probably needs to grab as many votes as he can now.

Speaks volumes of the guy given all the crap that's been going on around him.

Sure's he's benfitting from more of a free-reign but the example he sets the rest of the players on field is exemplary.

Good on ya Cuz - go you good thing.

Agreed this year may well be Benny year for the Charlie... Although i think that Chaddy Fletcher may be a chance this year he is always amongst the BOG for the eagles week in and week out and he deserves some form of recognition for it i just have a feeling that Fletcher may poll wel this eyar and surprise a few people...

Cuz would certainly have to be close to leading the votes at this stage along with Pav from the mob up the road.

CMON CUZ and CMON FLETCH!!!

I'd say big Cox would have to be very close to brownlow form ATM, and would think that he too would be a chance this year as well if he can maintain his current form, also there will be weeks when Cousins and sometimes Fletcher will cop a heavy tag, and seeing as it is vertually unknown to tag a ruckman i will be heading down to the TAB to put some money on Coxy.

Cousins has the best chance for the WC, but I think one M. Pavlich has been in hot form and will give it a shake this year as well.

I just had the best picture - Imagine Benny Cousins and Chaddy Fletcher tied for the Brownlow and then tied for the Norm Smith medal when we win the Grand Final this year!!

You can't tie for the Norm Smith.

But the rest of your post sounds plausible ;)

The big bonus for Cuz over a guy like Pavlich is that we have won 8 games to Freo's 4. More votes on show for WC than there would be for Fremantle or any other club really.

The more games we win the more chance Cousins has and right now he is red hot form and I wouldnt be surprised if he is leading the vote after 8 rounds.

Carn Cuz!

Calm down... its only round 8. I'm pretty happy as well, but lets try to keep a lid on it!

The lid is definitely off. In my own world, im keeping the lid firmly on but in the general public I think the lid was blown off weeks ago. Its a concern.

Cousins canwin the brownlow this year without a doubt, the only thing going against him is that there is so many good midfielders in the side, and they nipp of his votes, remember 2003, 1 vote off. You can tell also that Benny is one of those players that really want that medal on a personal level, i'l always remember the look on his face when Juddy won it.

This year considering Judd will be tagged pretty much all the time, Cousins has a chance to step up, but he going to have to play real consistant throughout the year.

It would be awesome if Skippy did win it, he really does deserve it just through his couragousness and the way he plays.

It will be interesting to see how it pans out with Judd now suspended. His season wasn't particularily good so far anyway, due to the heavy tags, but it could be that he'll either 1) turn the corner and play with no pressure for the brownlow, hence get quite a few inspite of being suspended or 2) still play well, but get no brownlow votes. Benny could obviously want option number 2 :)

when / if that happens Judd will begin to play his awesome football we know he's capable off.

but I agree Cousins looks very very good this year i'd have him on at least 11 / 12 votes this year and for less than half way through the season that's very good. The question is can he stay in this form, if he can I woulld think he's be clear cut favourite for a brownlow.

I agree 100% cuz shoulda won the brownlow yrs ago hes an excellent player and wifout him the team would be nowhere i mean altho theres judd we still need cousins 100% and especially now hes at his best!!!

As good as ppl think Cuz has been... It's mostly down to Judd taking the No1 Tagger. Cuz' goalking is a highlight this year but if you saw his first couple years he was a dynamic forward pocket anyway.
His defensive side in Midfield is lacking so its neccesary he kicks those goals when he gets moved to half-forward.

Very interesting to see how he plays Ryce Shaw this week. If he fails, then some shine is taken off his year.

Still Judd> Cous/Fletcher/Kerr > Braun/Embley>> Stenglein/Butler/Waters

Well he had 30+ touches and was one of our best against Collingwood. Disagree on your ratings...

Cuz/Judd > Fletch/Kerr/Embley > Braun > Stenglein > the rest....
