Very good list imo. Would make one major change from Hawthorn. I would swap Hodge & Mitchell around, as 2011 was the exception not the norm. Usually Hodge is a top 10 player in the comp ( 2005, 2008 & 2010 ) and Mitchell is usually in the 20s or 30s. Would definitely swap those guys around, or have Mitchell a bit lower, and Hodge a bit higher.

Agree with the first three.

Would have

1. Franklin
2. Ablett
3. Pendlebury

Like I said, good list all in all.

EDIT. Nice to see you have Birchall in. Was in the AA squad in 2011 and will have an even better year in 2012.

Good list, I think Sandilands is a little too low, could be top 10 again if he can remain uninjured, also I think NicNat could sneak in late, if he can have as much influence as he did the first half of the Collingwood final 9-10 times he would be in for sure.

You've got my beloved tiges down for 3 players when in fact you've listed 4,a slight error.4 in the top 50 ha.Not bad for a cellar dwellar:D

.... I got bored after this, Im probably forgetting somebody important

Good list - I'd move Franklin to number 2 and swap Selwood with Judd. And Hodge needs to move way up higher - somewhere in top 15.
From Brisbane, Redden may have snuck into a few lists by years end.

Hodge isnt getting any younger (28 next season?) and i just feel his best is behind him and thats why i slid him down a bit

He was 2nd in the MVP in 2010, whilst being named AA captain. Obviously a great year.

Had a shit pre-season in 2011, played injured first half of the year. As soon as his body was right though, he started to impact games. Polled 17 Brownlow votes ( nearly all in the back half of the year and was our best player again in finals ). If is body is right, he is easily in the top few players in the comeptition. From all reports, it will be in 2012. Don't write him off just yet!

Agree with much of your list. My take (with comments) is as follows:

1: S Pendlebury (C'wd) - has so much to prove in 2012, thus edges out Ablett
2: G Ablett (Geelong, I mean GC)
3: L.Franklin (Hawthorn)
4: C.Judd (Carlton)
5: J Selwood (Geelong) - finished 2011 in style and will be out to continue fine form
6: D.Swan (Collingwood)
7: M.Murphy (Carlton)
8: N Fyffe(Freo) - will blossom as Freo's No.1 in 2012
9: B Gibbs (Carlton) - Surely, he must realise his potential in 2012
10: N.Del Santo (St Kilda)

11: T Varcoe (Geelong) - at 23, he is on track to become elite IMO
12: T.Cloke (Collingwood)
13: D.Cox (West Coast)
14: J Bartel (Geelong) - Best utility in AFL
15: D.Thomas (Collingwood)
16: S.Johnson (Geelong)
17: A Goodes (Swans)
18: D Kerr (WCE) - Expect him to return to best form in 2012
19: A.Swallow (North Melbourne)
20: D.Glass (West Coast)

21: H.Shaw (Collingwood)
22: A.Sandilands (Fremantle)
23: M.Priddis (West Coast)
24: L.Shuey (West Coast)
25: P Dangerfield (Adelaide)
26: T.Cotchin (Richmond)
27: B.Goddard (St Kilda)
28: C.Enright (Geelong)
29: J.Watson (Essendon)
30: T.Goldstein (North Melbourne)

32: L.Hodge (Hawthorn)
33: S.Fisher (St Kilda)
34: J.Kennedy (Sydney)
35: B.Deledio (Richmond)
36: N.Bock (Gold Coast)
37: S Higgins (WB) - will prove he is a champion in 2012
38: H.Taylor (Geelong)
39: Tom Hawkins (Geelong) - will prove his form in last quarter 2011 was no fluke
40: D.Martin (Richmond)

41: M. Le Cras (West Coast)
42: L.Ball (Collingwood)
43: S Mumford (Swans)
44: C.Rioli (Hawthorn)
45: J.Riewoldt (Richmond)
46: B.Moloney (Melbourne)
47: K Jack (Swans)
48: J.Waite (Carlton)
49: Zaharakis (Bombers)
50: G.Birchall (Hawthorn)

Tom Scully in Top 50? Kidding. He will struggle as the lone ranger at GWS, and the wight of the huge salary will also hurt.

You think Varcoe will be the 11th best player in the competition in 2012

Yepp. Bold statement, maybe. But it took Ablett Jnr several years to blossom. Varcoe is blessed with similar brilliance, IMO. I am not sure he will crack top 10, as he may lack the stamina. But we have seen steady improvement in the kid, and he is coming into his prime.

Scully is about 3 times better than varcoe mate no offense lol, i dont rate varcoe much. Surrounded by stars and still is average a lot of the time. Does play well sometimes though but not close to elite

He made your elite midfield look pedestrian in the GF with his goal in the opening minute, and his coast to coast dash in 3Q.

What you meant to say is that Scully is paid three times what Varcoe gets.

Tutt looked elite with his 3 goals in his first 3 kicks of league footy, unfortunatly u have to look at his whole career before u make a judgement. Varoce does have flashes of brilliance no doubt, but often goes completely missing even with Geelong are dominating and the stars like selwood and bartel are getting oppostion attention.

I like the Varcoe pick. If someone had said Fyfe would finish 2011 around the top 10 this time last year, it would have got similar responses. It's only a prediction.

Sorry but varcoe has one of the easiest jobs in football, being the type of player he is, with the talent he is surrounded by doing the dirty work for him (enright selwood bartel scarlett ect) i really dont rate him. Especially seeing overall his performances havnt been outstanding (he often goes missing) whilst geelong have been absolutely dominate.

His the type i believe who would turn into tambling were he not at geelong and seriouslly struggle at a weaker club. I really dont see how he even comes close to the top 50 (let alone 10) players in the comp

Just my opinion though :)

So, do we deduce from what you say that anyone who plays forward of centre is ineligible to be top 10 or 20, because someone else has delivered the ball to them?

Not even slightly. Just deduce that varoe being a reciever in his all conquering team has a pretty easy job, and ADD that to the fact his performances in general have been average-good (by not means great) he is not close to the top 50.

Someone forward of centre can easily be, if the consistant great performances are there, which they are not for varcoe.
