does anyone know the cheapest and best aussie web host??

doesn't have to be free, but must provide a .com.au domain and atleast 10 megs (no more than 20) of space.

anyone know of a good one?

i found www.e-biz.com.au and sounds good. Anyone know anymore?

The question you want to ask yourself is:
"Do I want my own domain name, or do I just want to have someone else's domain name with my username tagged on to the end of it".

If you want your own com.au domain name then there are some prerequisites.
1. the com.au domain space requires that you have either an ACN or a BRN.
2. The domain name must reflect the nature of your business.
3. Your domain name needs to be hosted on a DNS server somewhere with the relative "A records" pointing to allocated IP addresses.


1 and 2 may change because the .au domain space is being "deregulated".
Regarding 3, if you find a web hosting service to your liking, they can arrange for the delegation and DNS management of your domain name.


Otoh, with a .com domain 1 and 2 are not an issue and all you need to do is find a service to host your .com domain.

There is another option if you want "your own" domain name and that is you can apply for a .au.com domain. There is a catch though, what you are purchasing is a "sub domain" of the au.com domain name, it is not a "full domain name" that you own and can take with you wherever you like. In my opinion these domains are a con as ownership will always be with Net Registry Pty Ltd.

My last choice which was someone else's domain name with your username tagged on the end can be handled by any ISP, the only problem is the amount of disk space required. The only ISP that I know of that allows greater than 10mb is AAPT Smartchat, you can have up to 20mb with one of their dialup accounts. Most ISP's only allow about 5mb.

Aussie web hosting can be expensive compared to some USA hosting companies, it's best to shop around, and it doesn't make any difference whether your files sit on a site in Oz or in the USA, as long as you can access them reasonably quickly.

The best overseas one to go with would be Network Solutions.
It was relatively cheap too.

The prices are not bad and you can choose for either a 25mb plan, 150mb plan or a 500mb plan!

Also, when you sign up, you get a yourname.com domain name. You have to pay extra for the .au extention!
