12th man: Hoggy

I may only have 3 pace bowlers in the team but I reckon it's a pretty sound team.

No way i would rate our recent attack the best, for one thing we have to be realistic and accept that not playing a frontline spinner is something we only got away with due to being at home whereas attacks like the 2007 one would have been better equipped for playing anywhere in the cricket world.
Not sure on that one. I heard that we would need a spinner even in Australia before the tournament started. I don't think we necessarily do.

I know you're probably talking about a specialist spinner, but I reckon Maxwell stepped up and was able to play the role just as well as any spinner we've got in this country.

I still think we do, although I probably should've realised the two new balls+four men out would impact their necessity. Still, three of the last four teams had a well performing first choice spinner, so it's hardly as though they were totally unnecessary.

2007 for me. Excellent side. If I did an all time WC side it'd look something like:

Hayden
Gilchrist (+)
Ponting
Clarke
Symonds
Bevan
Maxwell
Starc
Warne
Lee
McGrath

Bracken unlucky

Kidding yeah? Michael Bevan is arguably our greatest ever ODI batsman. He faced the likes of Ambrose, Walsh, Akram, Donald etc. in his career. I'm sure he would be fine against Johnson.

He had a weakness against the short ball. Those guys ended his test career. If the 13/14 Ashes Johnson showed up, he would struggle.

I don't think a spinner is unnecessary IF they are good. I don't see the need for a spinner in an ODI if they're not in the best 4 bowlers though. As such I deem the quality of bowler much more important than a necessity to have certain 'type' of bowler
