Not just judging by the place their teams finished this year but, progress, young players coming up, strategies etc.

well I think its neil craig for the simple fact on how much adelaide has improved from last season.You can argue he may of walked into a ready made team by ayres, but i think the way he got adelaide up and firing against St.Kilda in the latter of the season it proves he is a wise coach who has more then a nice line up of players under him

Yes but the question was who was the best coach of 2005 in terms of progress, young players coming up, strategies etc. not who is the best coach. I dont think you will anyone disagreeing Matthews and the Lions were a superb coach and team.
