So, we've talked about the issues with the midfield, our problems with injuries in the backline, but I've been wondering how exactly we're going to set up the forward line in 2015, particularly in the first 5 or 6 weeks if Jack Darling isn't playing there.

Tall forwards- Kennedy is the mainstay here, a top 5ish key forward in the competition and a critical player if we want to make any serious progress this year- he needs to have a big one. McGovern may be used more in defence, and we haven't seen much of McInnes. It seems a given that Lycett and Naitanui will rotate through a key forward spot, probably on a 65/35 basis with Lycett taking the majority of time up forward. No idea what we're going to get from Darling with his lack of pre-season. Sinclair will play forward too if one of the other rucks isn't playing, otherwise I don't see much of a spot for him in the side right now.

Medium forwards- LeCras plays like a medium forward, and like Kennedy we need him to stay fit and firing- forget the midfield experiment for the moment, I'd love to see him get back and kick 45+ for the season. Class player. Hill may be on the outside given that he didn't play for the Eagles this weekend, instead putting in a fairly average performance at East Perth by all accounts. Tunbridge is a bit of an unknown, not sure he will play early in the season but he is a potential option if he gets more involved at WAFL level. Tom Lamb has been great during the preseason and I think he will certainly get a gig pretty soon.

Small Forwards- Who knows? Cripps is probably the one who will certainly be in the Round 1 side, and I think he has a fair bit to offer, can push up the ground a little as well. We heard a fair bit during the pre-season about Newman and Karpany, and although we need another small forward I can't see either of them starting the season. The spots are there though if they can push in. Right now as much as I don't agree with it I think McGinnity will play as a lockdown small forward.

Anyone else with the potential to play forward? Our forward line was touted as a big advantage for us last year but we rarely got the best out of it IMO.

Likely round 1 lineup

HF: Cripps Kennedy LeCras
FF: Lamb Lycett McGinnity

Best lineup? Darling will be in there for sure, McGovern hopefully if the defence is holding up alright, and obviously Cripps and Lamb have plenty of improvement left, but there's still a spot or two to fill.

Murray Newman would have to be a good chance to take McGinnity's spot , thats if we want someone who could kick 3 or 4 goals from a dozen possessions . If we want a defensive forward then McGinnity's the one probably .

Kennedy always plays FF (rather than CHF), and I think that's how it should be.

Cripps and LeCras are locks, both spending time deep and on the flanks.

I think with McInnes sub yesterday, it's an indication we will play Lamb. He should start at CHF and just contest.

Naitanui and Lycett will rest forward.

That leaves one or two mids rotating through the flanks. Everyone will spend time forward, but perhaps Wellingham, Masten and Shuey more than Selwood, Priddis and Gaff.

HF: LeCras Lamb Wellingham
FF: Lycett Kennedy Cripps

HF: Lamb Lycett Masten
FF: Lecra Kennedy Cripps

- I thought maybe Wellingham as a HHF but he doesn't seem to work hard enough there and i think he plays his best footy in the center, rotate him with Lecra to spend some minutes resting there. Masten gets out bodied in the center and i think he played some good footy in 2012 as a HHF.

- Lamb gets a gig after his solid pre-season form.

- Lycett to play more minutes up front than Nic Nat.

- Cripps had a bad game on the weekend but has been pretty good in his other showings.

- JK as a FF and is in pretty good form leading into the season.

If Ginners is named in any game before round 8 then surely, the coaching staff are taking the piss. I wouldn't play him unless our seasons over. I don't like to bash players on our own list, but after watching him first hand yesterday I've aligned with those who think he shouldn't get a game. Guy just doesn't have any upside, doesn't bring anything different to our playing style. Just more vanilla-ness.

Rather see Newman or another young guy get his spot. Someone with developmental potential.

Strange when I was looking at the afl site that he had 8 (I think?) score assists, the most ever recorded by Champion Data in a pre-season game.

I think you should have Kennedy, Lecras and Cripps as the only 3 men in your forward 50 - the rest just get in the way.

PLonk Mcluvin in the goal square, has the best hands in the squad.

Talented enough to play down back but he's easily 50+ goal a year forward.

I would want Wellingham to spend some time forward. Maybe not best suited for it but with no Darling players like him really need to step up and he has more to prove than anyone in the side.
It would be great if scooter somehow learnt how to kick goals too but I won't hold my breath

I was a paddy knocker for a long time but can see the improvement he has made to his game since Simmo has been here .Not the best choice but he seems to get to some good spots to link up the play .

I kind of saw a little bit last year but after that game last week I'm well and truely done with him. I don't see any up side or purpose to being in the side apart from making up numbers

His work rate is very good so he can get on the end of it but it is counterproductive to have him get the ball with his disposal and goal kicking. If he could kick better he would have value. It's very frustrating that we have players who have the right attitude and no skill and players with skill and lazy/poor attitude - a real double whammy!

Hes not best 22 but someone who can come in and play a role ,I don't like him but just saying he was ready bad a few years ago and has tidied up some areas of his game .

Two points on this post.
1. We got Scooter and not Joel so do not expect changes to his disposal.
2. I like the idea of Wellingham as he has better skills but he is such a lazy prick that he is likely to not put his body on the line. His better games last year was when he was tagging. It was saying your job is to tackle and block not run up and down the catwalk showing off your man bun and colouring it.

I'm not sure how people are sliding McGinnity into their best 22's outside of playing as the Sub.

As it stands.

FB: Schofield - Brown - Bennell
HB: Hurn - McGovern - Yeo
C: Gaff - Priddis - Rosa
---------------------------------
HF: Masten - Kennedy - LeCras
FF: Cripps - Lycett - Darling*
---------------------------------
R: Naitanui - Shuey - Selwood
Int: Sheed - Sheppard - Ellis

Sub: Wellingham

*swap for lamb early on.

As the season roles on id hope it becomes harder and harder for McGinnity. With Newman, Cavka, Hutchings, Maginnes, Duggan, et all all demanding selections.

On Scooter I more meant his set shots on goals. They are terrible. Wellingham plays the tagging role pretty well but I think most people expected him to be able to perform other roles a lot better

If we can get McGovern to play CHF at times this year our forward line will be almost as strong as its ever been.

Resting mid - McGovern - Darling/Lamb
Lecras - Kennedy - Cripps

Yep you bet this is how it would work in practice.
