Don't know if this has been done on here before. Being a PC game nut, I'd have to say 'Age of Empires II'. Amazing replay value, incredible multiplayer battles. Myself and a group of friends play PC games over a LAN and even once we've played a game to death we can still switch onto this baby.

Streetfighter 2- single handedly brought gamers back into the arcades since the Pac-man era.and no other game has ever been as anticipated being brought to console format as SF2 was when it was brought over to the super nintendo and megadrive.

Double dragon goes close though, chuck in elite as well on the c64

Yep, Double Dragon was the best game around, I used to spend ages in the arcades as a kid playing it.
Other Arcade Games I loved were:

GoldenAxe
Ghouls and Ghosts
Dragon Ninja
Snow Brothers
Cabal

As for PC games:
Warcraft 2
Under a killing moon
The Pandora Directive

Im a PC man. These have been my games of choice over the years:

Wolfenstein
Unreal tournament
Warcraft3

Wolfenstein 3D, I was absolutely addicted to the game as a teenager.

Another World was also fairly unique game released in the early 90's.

PC:
-Street Rod 2
-Prince of Persia
-Vice City
-Sim City 2000

Aracde:
-SF2
-Double Dragon
-Daytona
-Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle

Console:
-Mario series
-Sonic series
-Golden Axe on megadrive :D

I used to love this game, although I only ever played it in the arcades. I found it got a bit boring after a while. Once I'd beaten it putting conditions on myself that I was only allowed to fight using a headbutt for the entire game or a flying kick for the entire game or reverse kick for the entire game and still beat everyone I stopped playing.

Agree on that, when it came out it was incredible - still one of my favs of all time.

For mine:
The Getaway
International Superstar Soccer (on SNES, predecessor to Pro Evolution I think)
Donkey Kong Country
Super Mario Kart
NBA Jam
Return of the Jedi (on Amiga)
Winter Olympics (on Amiga)
Tiger Woods 2004
Grand Prix 3

umm i'm surprised Street Rod 2 hasnt been mentioned as much as i thought it would. Any reason why? This game is still very popular...well, we all still play it during class :D

Digger (i used to love playing it on my old amiga 64)
Goldeneye (my mates and i spent so much time playing this)
AOE2 (Love it, a lot better with expansion as well)

Mario and sonic games on the snes and megadrive also rocked.
Also ocarina of time changed the way i thought about games (it was that good)
Games in the last 2 years or so don't see to be as great as they once were in my opinion.

There have been good ones like serious sam, max payne, rise of nations, and of course vice city and a few others, but most just seem to be forgotten 5 mins after finishing them.
