When Kurt Tippett comes into the side there is a question mark about where LRT will play. Personally I think our side would be strengthened if he was to play at CHB leaving Grundy with another role.
We saw how effective LRT can still be as a backman and he has that bit of extra size to combat the bigger forwards.
No doubt there will be some injuries but with a full squad I believe he is the best option at CHB.

If it was a straight choice at CHB I'd take LRT every day of the week.

If LRT were to play at CHB I don't think there's another role for Grundy in our best 22.

Grundy can warm the bench for when LRT comes off at quarter time and needs somewhere to sit.

LRT ahead of Grundy as a defender by the length of the Flemington straight

LRT ahead of Grundy as a forward by the length of 7 Flemington straights

With Teddy and LRT turning 30 this year I wouldn't mind seeing Walsh given a go there in the reserves.

Doesn't have the body for it yet, needs a couple more pre seasons or a visit by "The Weapon".

haha @ The Weapon. I thought he was suggesting Walsh to groom for the possie in a couple of years. I think AJ has him well covered even when giving away a bit of height.

LRT doesn't have enough circumflex to be a swing man.

Honestly had to look that up as i suspected it would be something the essendon footy club would be on. He has a hyphen, doesn't need a circumflex

Yes. I'm Tommy Walsh.

Even little men that are unco can lift, I was only asking to get an idea why you think Walsh would be better suited to CHB before AJ? You seem sure of yourself in most threads. It seems that on this board every big fella that struggles to find a spot in the first 22 posters automatically suggest "hey lets try him at CHB".

Reg has to keep playing. He has that understanding with Ted. I suspect LRT will start a lot of games from the bench when Tippett comes in. Teddy is probably not going to play 100% game time this year so we will need LRT's flexibility

I said I'd like to see him played there in reserves, not seniors ahead of Johnson. I happen to think Johnson will take over Ted's role in due course, once he has added some more muscle.

I think Walsh should be tried in defence for a few reasons. He had success there when playing in the VFL, a tall forward being transitioned to playing in defence has often sparked successful careers in the AFL, we now have an abundance of tall forward options that are capable of playing senior football (Tippett, Reid, Goodes, LRT, Pyke, Mumford, White) while not having quite as many capable of stepping into a senior defensive role should Ted or Grundy go down injured (LRT is obviously ready to go when needed but after him, what do we have?).

In summary, I think Walsh being redeployed as a big bodied defender is of more use to our depth than being stuck behind 5 or 6 tall forwards.

Good reply, its always better to read a post with reasoning.

Walsh played at CHB and FB for St Kilda in the reserves, was not very impressive in the least... It was only when he was moved forward that he started showing any signs of being a proper footballer, and he was very good up forward for us in the reserves last year.

Well that sucks.

Well that sucks.

He does have great athleticism and he does have a bit more experience under his belt now, if he doesn't make it as a forward he could still be a defender down the line possibly, He will need to be played in defence in our reserves more though.
