I was not aware of Port’s feats in Perth in 1910 in beating a WAFL composite side and Collingwood, but they seem a bit lucky since they were playing during a break from a really wet winter in August of that year (and in October with Collingwood when the weather was hotter). If you consider that Perth’s dams that year received more runoff than in all years since 2001 combined (thanks to Murray Lonie and Robin Underwood and CityLink) Port would have judging by later results benefitted from playing in a dry spell.1910 - Port Adelaide
1914 - Port Adelaide
- Defeated East Fremantle (WAFL Premier)
- Defeated WAFL composite side
- Defeated Collingwood (VFL Premier)
- Defeated North Broken Hill (NSW Premier)
- Defeated Carlton (VFL Premier)
- Defeated SAFL composite side
- Undefeated
Still, although they faltered (and contrary to my expectations it was not because of the weather) against West Adelaide in the 1912 finals, the 1910 to 1914 Port Adelaide team still must stand as (at least) the equal of the late 1950s Magpies or late 1960s Double Blues simply by virtue of their successes elsewhere.
