Certainly not underrated. It regularly makes lists of greatest guitar solos.

Metal guitar solos showcase the best talent but I still like solos in punk rock songs a whole lot better. They are just shorter, more to the point and usually fit in well with the whole song

Not sure if srs.

Metal - usually fast, but that means limited tone

Punk - the whole idea of punk is bare bones. Very little note bending and licks. Punk music is limited when it comes to solos and lead guitar.
