I need a couple of new tv's - no smaller than 48"
Whats the best to get?

The last TV I bought was a CRT (Loewe Cantus, widescreen one)

Are Loewe and Metz still the best or have the Japanese caught up?

Not interested in this 3D jibba jabber thanks so no talk of that.
Needs to be full HD though
will be hooked up to my playstation and obviously football

thanks

If you bought a Loewe from Encel Stereo, you may be able to trade it in

Metz are very nice, but we're talking pricey with these TVs.

I have a Loewe Aconda and have been deliberating over a new TV for some time. I too have little interest in the current generation of 3D TVs. I'm probably just going to look at LED TVs around Christmas.

I bought the Loewe from a local retailer in Canberra.

I haven't heard much about LED ones - are they better than Plasma or LCD?

LED TV's are LCD TV's, just the new generation.

Instead of being lit by fluorescent tubes the screen is lit by LED's.
Provides better blacks and if you put them side by side the LED lit ones are a big improvement.

If you are on a budget the best deal going around at the moment is the Samsung 50 inch Full HD Plasma for around $1500.
Perfect if you love your sport as they don't 'ghost' as much as LCD TV's tend too.

The best thing to do is go and check them out somewhere with a huge selection on display. Hopefully they are playing a movie or television as you shouldn't fall for the animated movie technique of making a TV look better than it is.

They do this a lot don't they? They should put on something like a blu-ray DVD of the previous year's AFL Grand Final.

So not much love for TV's around here or did I post on the wrong board?

Basic rule of thumb, go Japanese for picture, and European for sound.

Personally I would only consider one of these four, and probably in that order as they have the best 2D picture quality

1. Panasonic THPXXVT20A plasma, XX = 50", 54", 58", 65"
2. Samsung PSXXC7000 plasma, XX = 50", 58" 63"
3. Sony KDLXXHX800 LCD, XX = 40", 46", 55"
4. Panasonic THPXXV20A plasma, XX = 42", 50", 54"

Loewe PQ isn't as good as the above. Haven't seen any Metz but I doubt its got as good PQ as the Panasonic and Samsung plasma above.

Panasonic Viera V20A is my personal favourite in terms of budget and specs. The 54" can be picked up for a bargain in JB (as low as $1700 depending on your haggling skills). It's Japanese made, plasma, good black levels, full HD, and you can even record to a HDD via a usb link.

Yeah i bought one of these last week. I got it for $1900 at The Good Guys.

Love it, fantastic to watch.

lol It's funny just how many people I have spoken to recently that think along the same lines...that the 3D thing is just a gimmick (which incidently I think as well)..
I had a look at one in Dick Smith and thought...meh
