Just saw Ben McEvoy's press conference on Hawks website.
Allan Jeans said that when the going gets tough "you either step up or you step down".
Ben has chosen to step up.
He has been a shining light this year amongst a lot of fading lights.

He said all the right things at his press conference and I believe he really cares and that he is fully invested in helping make Hawthorn great again. He showed true leadership unlike some of his higher profile team mates.
More power to you Ben!

Been a big Big Boy fan since he came along. Not the most talented of footballers but an absolute warrior none the less.

Ottens was always talked up as a finals specialist but I think Big Boy is pretty underrated in that department.

I have been critical of the big fella in the past and was very frustrated after Jacobs smashed him in round 2. He has given his all the last few matches when many others haven't.

Mad respect to the big guy.

When things are going badly seemingly regardless of what you're doing, its usually when peoples true colours shine through and who they truly are rises to the surface.

Ben McEvoy & Tom Mitchell have largely been the only shining lights this season so far.

But if you've seen Tom Mitchell play before he came to us, you would've known already he was a gun.

What I didn't expect was a ruckman who has never been and likely never will be a world beater on the footy field to step up and be counted, showing passion for the club to rival any fans and showcasing leadership that seems to be only getting stronger by the round.

Keep it up Ben, its ****ing fantastic.

I see what Hodge saw when he named you as a potential future captain now.

In a period where there is alot of negative stuff around about Hawthorn, it's always great to focus in on the positives; one of which being the work of Big Boy. You just can't fault his workrate this season and his desire to give 100% at all times

He's doing all the stuff that doesn't take talent (effort, follow up, protecting team mates, second efforts).

If all our players were doing this we would have won more than a single game so far.

Well done Big Ben. True leadership by example.

A lot of second tier players haven't done their reputations any favours with their efforts this year. McEvoy is not one of them.

He is limited. He got towelled up by Jacobs and Witts and I will admit to calling for his head after the GC game. But he's got heart and has been terrific in the games since and has actually hit some great form since we dropped Vickery and let him solo ruck with TOB as chop out.

He's the only multiple premiership player who has gone up in my esteem this year. He's not a world beater but he's a good leader.

I wonder if Ben thought footy was easy after leaving the saints?, put in the minimum effort and there's a premiership medallion around your neck.

The past 18 months have shown him that no, it's going to take just as much effort as you were expending week by week in the past just to have a chance at success. Maybe if you can bring your teammates along you might get another chance...

The look on his face after the Cats humiliation showed how much he loved Hawthorn and how much pressure he puts on him self as leader.
He's a great guy and true hawk champion in many ways

Its like we have one of those ruckmen we would love like Goldstein or Martin that gets around the ground and does everything. Better system with him as our lone ruck for sure. Brought him into DT and SC last week and wasnt disappointment.
