I like your reasoning, but I would really like to keep our pick 10.
I haven't seen enough of Adams but that is the only possible player I would consider giving up pick 10, if he is better or going to be as good as the prospective draft picks available
The Pies need to target some young studs from GWS and Gold Coast... These teams will star studded in a few years... Start getting talent off them.

We'll still have the pick from Daisy.
If Martin went into the draft, and we could get him cheap, would it be considered?
You can pay your veterans a bit more, due to the veterans list. Didak last contract would have been soon after his 2 AA teams making appearances. So imo 400k would have been about right. BJ would have also been on the veterans list. No way Didak would have been on less then average wage after making the AA team twice. (300k is about average atm at it will be 350k in 3 years). No one knows the real amount however at the time of his last contract he would have been a top 5 player in the club. 400k would have been the minimum. BJ would have commanded 200-250k but being on the veterans list would have resulted in him receiving a bit more 300k would have been spot on.So.. didak is on 400k? And johnson is on 300k despite the club knowing they probably won't be playing in the seniors often? Also they are both veterans listed so 100k is out of the salary cap.
They are on around 200-250k (but effectively 100-150k of salary cap)
Didak on 400k is laughable
I don't think the CFC have said anything with regard to Martin (officially).I don't think so. I think Collingwood have said they are not interested, I could be wrong. He is just too much of a loose cannon. I love his ability, but why would we get rid of Heath Shaw, and get Martin. I was very keen for Collingwood to have a go at him, but deep down, I know he could be real trouble, and I don't think it is a risk that Buckley wants to take. Lions will get him I reckon.

The comments attributed to Collingwood are 100% from the media.
You may correct me if I am wrong.
Yer...I won't be happy if the Hawks recruit Martin or Garlett & go on to win another flag next year with their player top up strategy....whilst we are busy working on our culture. You're probably right, I heard something on SEN or read it on one of these boards, but I don't know whether there was a source or not. Might be just assumption after Buckley talked "culture". Would be a little bit about turn if we traded for or drafted the guy that everyone says is the epitome of poor culture traits. That aside, he is a star player, and will only get better.

'Win at all costs' worked just fine for the dons over the past few years, not.Yer...I won't be happy if the Hawks recruit Martin or Garlett & go on to win another flag next year with their player top up strategy....whilst we are busy working on our culture.
I prefer the culture of winning flags as all costs.
Nope, seems a complete idiot and Bucks wanting a better culture. Then Martin be last player we would want
A better culture is great... but as DermiesLuvChild above said, I would prefer a winning culture. I don't care what the guys get up to when they arent playing, so long as they deliver on the field.
I personally think Garlett is worth the risk.

Imagine if Leigh Matthews decided that Millane, Banks & Kelly didn't meet the behavior standards of the CFC......we would never have broken the 32 year drought in 1990.You're a lot like me DLC, I like players like Dermie, Darren Millane, Dennis Banks and all the other bad boys of the AFL. I wish those things didn't matter as much as they do. I seen a lot of supporters blaming Heath Shaw for causing such a disturbance this year, and saying he was a bad influence. People are so sensitive now days. It is not going to change because you and I hold onto our likes for the guys with a bit of character. As a player, you are getting paid heaps of money, and you are expected to act like a robot. Success usually stems from that. The regimented disciplines like the Army. I don't like it, but it is the way it is.
If Martin went to Hawks, and played up like Fev did for Lions, and he failed, we will be saying we dodged a bullet there. I think when you win a premiership, you can take a risk. If Tarrant wanted to come to us now, we would probably be more careful now than what we were after 2010 due to his off field behaviours first time around. Because we won a flag, we took the chance, and it worked out well.

I know times have changed.....but as you say, we have to take risks & back ourselves to turn them into team players with a desire to succeed (our coaches & football departments job).
Franklin was no angel as a kid, same with Darling....both have turned out ok.
At least we will be safe in the knowledge that our players are fine upstanding citizens. Whether they go onto greater heights on the field is another issue.Yer...I won't be happy if the Hawks recruit Martin or Garlett & go on to win another flag next year with their player top up strategy....whilst we are busy working on our culture.

Why does it have to be one or the other. Is it too much to expect players we recruit to be both?At least we will be safe in the knowledge that our players are fine upstanding citizens. Whether they go onto greater heights on the field is another issue.
Just need to make sure that any prospective draftees sit through a torturous few days of aptitude, personality and IQ tests to make sure we have the correct individuals.
If time permits throw in some kicking and handballing drills in there somewhere.
