I understand we're all still coming down from a big Hendo high at the moment, but I think we need to take some time to toast Big Sam.

He showed last night that he is definitely ahead of Leviathan, both as a forward and as a ruckman. He might not pluck the ball out of thin air like Buckets, but he is definitely a more polished footballer.

I just hope he can keep this sort of form up, he started the year beautifully and then faded a bit.

Levi to spend some long hours practicing his set shots and then we have some serious KPF options if Hendo stays up front.

Kudos to the big guy.
Has worked as hard as anyone in the past year to get himself in the position to play in the big league.
Rowe does run out of puff though and still finding it hard to run out a full game. Whether he has that tank or able to build up is yet to be seen.

I also think that Casboult is still the better ruck of the two and undoubtedly the better mark.
Whichever way though, good on him for last night. :thumbsu:

Agree that Rowe showed that he is a genuine AFL player last night against St Kilda. Dropped a few easy marks but made up for them throughout the night. I thought their was a bit of chemistry between Hendo and Rowe.

The big test foe Sam Rowe is whether he can provide a similar contribution when playing on the quality backman of the top 8 sides. I wasn't convinced that St Kilda's key position backs were of much quality last night.

Rowe is a much much much better kick for goal than Levi.

I would be interested to hear why you think Rowe is a better in the ruck than Levi, because I have come to the opposite conclusion.

Also, they mentioned on the broadcast last night that Sam Rowe has been given another 1 year contract. If this is true then congratulations to Sam who has certainly deserved it coming back from life a threatening and physically and mentally draining condition last year. Toast, Toast, Toast.

Played a fantastic game last night!

I really want to see what Rowe can do in the backline at AFL level. Looks to me to have all the attributes of a great defender.

I like him as a forward, but I see Cas overtaking him in the next year or so.

Rowe played a great game, He has a great natural kick and although his marking is about 20% less than Casboult he kicks 100% better.

I must admit I don't see him being a big part of our future, but it's nice to have a forward that can kick straight. Both he and Hendo kicked confidently for goal all night.

Deserves his spot at present.

I still reckon that we can go for having Henderson, Rowe and Casboult in the forward line with Casboult as our second ruck.

Maybe Dram but just seems a bit too risky.

Pretty confident we'll be targeting a KPP in the draft. Not sure what may be shaken out of the tree but we need further support, be it back or forward.

Sam was terrific last night and certainly deserves credit for his performance.

Henderson was the hero but Rowe provided terrific cover for him. Gave us a real target as that second tall forward and had a significant impact on the scoreboard. Also had a fair run in the ruck to help Kreuzer but thought he was quite ordinary there. Up forward is certainly his go.

I've questioned his longevity in the game and I still have some doubts but he certainly deserves credit for that performance. Backing it up again next week, and against a more competent defensive unit is his next challenge.

I reckon that we will be targeting an experienced defender in trade week myself so that we can send Henderson forward.

I think that Waite has to know that this is his final contract and even he will know that his body is no longer up to the rigors of AFL football. He will make a good third tall for us.

But I would like to see Rowe get some more games, along with Watson... who allows Henderson to go forward.

Rowe was fantastic. Provided a genuine forward option. IMO, Levi isn't an AFL footballer. Good mark. But that's it.

Get Levi's kicking sorted out and it is an AFL footballer...

I like Levi and he can certainly clunk a mark, but this year's form doesn't exactly back this claim up Dram. The fact that only 4 posters had nominated him as BNB for the entire year up to round 11 (if I'm reading Wook's PotY thread right) would seem to support this view.

I guess it's possible that like Kade, Levi is taking a while to learn how to play the way Mick wants him to, but I can't remember too many games this year where we've come away thinking Levi had produced what we'd all hoped he could.

PS. Still, I don't think that's a reason to be calling him an "it" :)

I had been doing a lot of typing... it was something that I had conditioned at the time... :(

I'm a big fan of Levi, but he needs to watch Sammy's game closely and see what's required in that role. Levi clunks marks like no tomorrow and crashes packs... but Rowe is very smart when it comes to those pack contests. If he's anywhere in the area, he won't let the ball get marked by an opposition defender and seems to try, if possible, to direct the punched ball to a teammates advantage. He also pushes up and gets involved in the play a bit more instead of just being there to mark it.

He dropped a couple easy ones, but have to admit, in general his hands are actually quite solid.

Bloody refreshing to have 2 big forwards playing well at the same time. It's been a while. Good to see them take both pack and leading marks. Hopefully this was Rowe's breakout game and they can both replicate this form Friday against the Roos
