No it wasn’t. Portland already had a very good shooting guard in Clyde Drexler and they needed a big man to help out on the board. If they had their time over again they should have gone for Charles Barkley rather than Sam Bowie.

They stuffed up because Sam Bowie was already injured before entering the pros and never really recovered (sound familiar with Greg Oden) to be able to develop into the pro everyone expected him to become.

I doubt anyone could have predicted how good MJ was going to become before he left NC – hindsite is a wonderful thing.

96 was the draft I think where most of the talent slipped. The likes of Antoine Walker, Lorenzen Wright, Kerry Kittles, Samaki Walker and most of all Todd Fuller taken before Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash and Jermaine O'Neal, just to name a few!
