Had the same issues as well. Good to know I'm not alone. At first it was complaining about my wireless USB, then my account username/password. Usually you can solve those occasional glitches in a couple minutes, but this was going on for most of the morning.

After some persistence, started working around 9:30am for me.

I'm still in Sydney at the folks and on bigpond ( :( ) and have been online all morning.

best thing i ever did ( apart from uploading on redtube at 1 buck for every hit). Those telstra call centers in Mumbia could be downright campaigners

Lolwut?

Probably has less drop-outs, and more consistent speeds and stable connections, than any other ISP in Australia.

A thread on telstra...

The only reason why I didnt go with "bigpong", The prices are steep. I guess you get what you pay for though.

I must admit Bigpond's improvement in the last five years has been staggering. At least in terms of the service my folks have got from them over the last 15-20 years.

I left home for O/S in 2006 and the old man wouldn't use anyone else and just left me to deal with the complete cluster**** that it became. I reckon I was averaging a tech support ticket every couple of months for a good eight years prior to that, and a lot of the time it took multiple days for the tickets to be resolved. I used to beg him to try another company, but he was a stubborn bastard. After I left Dad had loads of trouble himself, but some time around five years ago they slowly started to get their shit together, and it's been very solid since. About three years ago I set the old's up with a billion modem (highly recommend) and it's been ever better.

It also needs to said we moved around a lot in the early 2000's. Off the top of my head we moved houses in 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2006 so that probably didn't help.

And comparing ISP's is not always easy as there are lot of other factors (how close to the exchange you are is one of many) that can determine performance. A lot of the time you'll find someone has shit internet and they blame the ISP but it wouldn't have mattered who they used they would have shit internet.

But I'm still pretty scarred by bigpond, and whenever I'm in charge of getting internet set up I've gone with TPG and never had any major problems.

TPG seem pretty good, I've never heard anyone complain about them though I've never been with them myself. I've been with iiNet since 1999 and they've always been great.

I have to deal with the Telstra accounts we have at work and that can be a pain. They have at times made some monumental ****ups that have cost a lot of time to sort out (though we at least eventually got the money refunded). I'd probably agree they seem to be better now than they were. Still wouldn't use them at home.
