Player Watch Billy Frampton

There was a second motion where Billy continued the tackle thus rolling checkers neck.
I’ve watched it over again and to me it’s Checkers momentum that takes them that extra motion. I hope we appeal, it was an unfortunate freak incident that happened in a legitimate tackle.

Any conscious player would have protected themselves.
It appears he was out cold before the tackle to the ground which Billy would have no idea.
We can challenge this and I think we will and we will win if they legally get it right.

I'm really interested in how this ends up. I reckon the AFL will want a suspension but we won't really know till it happens

Very harsh,

should have gone straight to the tribunal to argue the merits of the duty of care in relation to the specifics of the incident
The club will appeal. The Tribunal can argue it out & hopefully come to the conclusion that it was a terrible accident & there was nothing more Bill could do.

I completely agree.

The AFL sanction is based on the outcome which is terrible for Brody and we wish him a speedy recovery. And thank god it isnt worse.

But this is a footy action, and Brody significantly contributed to the outcome. Not sure what else Frampton could do in the circumstances.

If you start with the reasonable assumption that Frampton had no intention of hurting his Premiership teammate, then the incident looks like an unfortunate accident.

Mihocek tried to duck under the tackle putting his head/neck in a vulnerable position, while Frampton didn't possess the finesse that would have been required to keep him safe in the tackle. Not sure many would.

Sometimes it feels a bit political, as though the MRO need to send a harsh signal given the significance of the injury to try and influence player culture more subliminally (even if the result is overturned or downgraded, maybe their position to make examples out of things).

Feel sorry for Checkers and also Frampton.

no, but might get reduced
It can't. Or at least it can only be reduced to zero. Our only argument is that it didn't constitute a reportable offence because Billy didn't breach his duty of care to Brody in the tackle. If that fails, then careless, high contact, severe impact is the only option. And that's a minimum of 3.

Just out of curiosity, can players sue other players for injuries that happen during games?

Regardless of your thoughts on the incident itself, there is no chance in hell they are going to overturn a suspension when someone literally broke their neck.

If the club gears up for a tribunal fight by basically blaming Mihocek, which is their only way to contest it, then it will turn into a very ugly circus. It could cause further distress to Checkers and his family and give media talking heads a chance to go afer the club for being insensitive.

It would be the PR equivalent of a prisoner smearing himself in sh*t in a futile attempt to stop the guards dragging him off to solitary confinement.

It will just be a pointless exercise in self-harm. Just accept the outcome.

Cool story bro

Sicily got a free kick and was suspended for 3 weeks.
I know. That simply confirms my implication. The AFL is a joke. A player gets wiped out for may be three weeks for an incident in which an umpire stood only a few metres away-and awarded a free kick to the man who is subsequently suspended. Was the ump blindsided? I can't see how. Did even one member of the crowd boo when the initial free kick was given? None? It was only in hindsight after seeing the severity of the result that Melbourne fans booed Billy. Usually crowds react instantly to a sling tackle or dangerous tackle.

We shouldn't "just accept the outcome" because of the optics. I don't think anyone in the broader footy landscape besides mad anti-Pies nuffies think Frampton should have been suspended.

Clubs like Geelong, GC and Richmond have backed their players to the point of looking like 🤡 🤡 🤡.
Frampton has done nothing wrong other than a football act. From this point he will be targeted by some supporters. He is a Collingwood player and must be supported. This is fundamental to a quality club. I would be disappointed if the club fails.
Checkers 😪 .

I've been surprised by how many non Pie & even Dee's supporters who don't think Bill should be suspended & it was a terrible accident.
