Bird is cooked

It has been said after the previous 10 stress injuries, but surely we need to have a look at our strength and conditioning team. We're the only country in the world that this is happening to, and I don't even think our state sides have the same issue

Horrible news. We better pray hard that he is right for the Ashes.

In fact I will go as far as to say we are no chance of reclaiming the urn unless we have Pattinson, Bird and Siddle all fit, and all ready to go. In English conditions they are the 3 who will get the job done. Starc just won't cut it over there. And Mitch? The Poms will be rubbing their hands together with glee if he's out there.

God-damnit. I could not give one **** if he doesn't play in India, but as Sylvia Saint said, he is a MUST for the ashes.

Is there really no other cricket nation that has bowlers breaking down as often as ours are? It's getting beyond a joke now, questions have to be asked...Are we playing too many games? Are the strength/conditioning coaches not doing their jobs? Genuinely horrible news for any cricket enthusiast.

is it a potential case of over diagnosis? i.e. as soon as the slightest thing is wrong with these guys they're off the track for an extended period.

it sounds reckless saying you've gotta play through injury a bit but very few sportsmen (professional or amateur) take to the sporting field at absolute 100% physical health.

the common line trotted by footballing clubs is you gotta be 100% to take the field but we all know that's a bit of poetic licence. if it was the case AFL lists would need to be extended to 60 just to guarantee 22 blokes on the field every weekend.

Queen wrote a song about this.

Was it called "Cricket Australia are a joke"?

Too much of a coincidence that a guy breaks down after 2 months in the Aussie setup after bowling out multiple FC seasons uninterrupted. May be slightly premature given I'm not sure how he'd go in Indian conditions, but I'd like to see Faulkner sent over, or of course, SOK.

As soon as a quick enters the national set-up, they break down - playing or not.
It would seem that something is seriously wrong with the current approach.

How dare you!!

Bird is obviously just playing too much Cricket!

We need to manage him better; he shouldn't be playing anymore games than Steyn or Anderson, then he'll be fine!

maybe it's a good time to fix the selections.

Doherty home, Sok over.
Smith home, Bailey over.
Maxwell home, Faulkner over
Bird home, ncn over (and we don't even have to upset the golden boy MJ)

given henriques has cemented his spot in the all rounder position, there's no need for spinning all rounders because they're not going to play. sok is better than doherty if we're gonna play a second spinner, and he can handle a bit too. probably no need to send another quick over anyway. 17 was too many to begin with. so do whatever there.

could probably send usman home after the second test, and at least let him play some first class cricket.

You're making a bit too much sense here.

actually come to think of it if there is still 17 blokes in india when the last test starts it will show how non thinking these blokes are. what's the point?

unless we're playing one dayers. then leave the reserves who are gonna be in the one day squad over there but everyone else should be back home to get some game time. no point flying them back home then back to india.

The only point I'd argue is it might be a good idea for Khawaja to stay over there and get exposure (even if it's facing net bowling by Indian second graders) to spin on the sub continent, as it's clearly a massive weakness of his. To be fair though, that probably goes for all of our batsmen.

Why does he 'have' to play in England? Philander struggled with the Duke ball over there and he is an impeccable line and length bowler. England loved him.

Starc, Pattinson and Siddle is a fine frontline for England.

England loved facing a bowler who averaged 23 against them?

Smith has played much, much better in the Shield than Bailey in recent times. If you were going to send Smith home then you would at least replace him with Voges or something.

Don't really see what value Faulkner adds to the squad. Maxwell can bat at 6/7 and bowls spin. Our tail already bats long and if you want a specialist paceman then there's better choices (Butterworth for starters).
