Blake Acres Mark (2).jpg Blake Acres

West Perth, 188cm, 83kg, 7/10/95

Mobile midfielder who can push back, forward or anywhere on the ground. Acres is a strong runner, and makes the right decisions, but may have only limited exposure in the championships after sustaining a shoulder injury this month. He will keep training and testing the injury in the hope he can avoid surgery.

The kid popped his shoulder again today seems a major problem for him.
He may need a shoulder reco.

Pretty underrated by some I reckon. Has the potential to be a Top 15 pick, but I think the shoulder will do hurt his draft chances and, obviously, him.

He had surgery on his shoulder today, might not see him in the draft until 2014..

Skills are good though.

Why is that? Because of his Should Surgery. If he is good he will still get drafted

I think this puts Acres out if first round contention. The shoulder might worry clubs and a lot of teams won't want to take that risk, unfortunate for a very talented player.

So he might be a 3rd Rounder to 1st Round Rookie Pick

Shame for the kid. I thought he was a top 10 smokey. Don't understand how this possibly puts him out of contention for the entire draft though. Cadeyn Williams at Richmond had bad shoulder problems and hardly played all of last year. Still got rookied and he's nowhere near the level of Acres talent.

Would still be surprised if he lasted past the 2nd round. Plenty of players have had injuries and still been picked up.
I'd still be happy taking him with our 2nd round pick.

Ash had his shoulder fixed at the start of the season and his shoulder won't effect his draft. Boyd hurt his ankle and this won't hurt his draft. Sheed broke his collar bone and this won't hurt his draft. Acres has played great football last year and this year. His carnival wasn't the best but playing with a shoulder that dislocated in the first 4 min won't change recruiters opinions of him and his abilities. He will go in the first round or very early in the second depending on how well he rehabs and how well he interviews at the draft camp etc. There is plenty of players playing with repaired shoulders and I heard from West Perth that he had plenty of consultations with Doctors and recruiters and has picked the right type of surgery for him. A player who averages 27 touches a game in colts on a team that averages low 200 touches a game will not slid to the rookie draft. He may slide to a second round pick but considering pre injury he was tipped to go in the top 10 any team that gets him will do well. Same goes for Nick Robinson, Acres team mate from West Perth would have been a top 10 pick but with his shoulder injury and surgery he may also slide. Another bonus outside top 10!

AFL combine. 4 weeks post surgery/rehab.
20m sprint 3.05 sec
Agility test. Didn't test
Standing jump : ?
running vertical jump (r): ?
Running vertical jump (l) :?
Repeat sprint 25.16 sec
Beep test 13.1
3 km 11.15
190.2 cm
Result from TeamWA facebook page

Big difference in results from the start of the WAFL season to now but that what you would expect after an injury and not being able to train.
Post result would have got him equal 5th in the beep test, equal 7th in the sprint, 8th in the agility, 1st in the repeat sprint, 2nd in the running vertical (l), 10th in running vertical (l) and just outside ths top 10 in the standing jump.
Would have been interesting to see what a full uninterrupted season of training and playing would have resulted in.

I'd have no complaints if West Coast drafted him with pick 6.

"A versatile prospect with good endurance, Acres has shown he can adapt to any role asked of him... having spent time playing senior football for West Perth, Acres showed he is equally adept at rebounding off half-back and cutting up opposition sides with his slick disposal. Strong overhead and wins the football on the inside and outside."

Wouldn't complain if the Blues picked him up at 13, which going by majority of the reports is about his right range at about 10-20.

Mate I don't mean to offend but how accurate are these results?
2 whole levels on the beep test is a big - big drop, not to mention the 2 second differential between Acres and the other draftees for repeated sprints...

2. Darcy Byrne-Jones (24.06)
3. Jonathon Marsh (24.18)

Result come from Edith Cowan University who manage and conduct the testing at the start of the year when all the WAFL Colt players do a mini combine. I was there when West Perth and South Fremantle did the beep test and he differently did 15.2.

Cool, so the 15 in the beep test is legit and the repeat sprints is probably just a typo I'd assume...

Thanks!

Maybe I should rephrase has he been told to slow down to drop a few places to a particular side?
