Blayne was chosen as the U18 All Australian full back as a 17 y.o in 2009. He was widely touted as a first round draft pick this year or even a Gold Coast concessional pick. His 2010 U18 form was solid despite being hampered by injuries. Surprisingly he was not picked in the 2010 national draft and West Coast who rated him highly pounced almost immediately and selected him with the #2 pick in the PSD. He is not tall enough to play as a key position player at AFL level but is an excellent reader of the play and very good mark and kick. Trevor Woodhouse likened him to Beau Waters but from all reports he is a superior kick. He has played 11 WAFL league games for Peel Thunder, 4 in 2009, and 7 in 2010.

Height: 188cm

Club: Peel Thunder
WAFL Statistics: http://wafl.pro-stats.com.au/wafl/we...es?pid=1076133

Achievements:
2009 U18 Western Australian Team
2009 U18 All Australian Team
2010 U18 Western Australian Team
2010 Draft Camp Invite
2009 2010 Peel WAFL League Team

Wilson is a medium-sized defender with excellent disposal by either hand or foot. In 2008 he represented Western Australia at the NAB AFL Under-16 Championships, averaging 11 disposals, three marks, and three rebound 50’s. In 2009 he played in each of Western Australia’s five matches at the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships and was rated as its best by his coaches. His disposal efficiency rate of 88% was elite and the highest of any player in the Under-18 All-Australian team where he was selected at full back. At WAFL level he played 12 matches for Peel Thunder Colts, averaging 17 disposals per match. He made his league debut in Round 16, he played 4 matches and averaged 13 disposals and four marks per game. AFL Prospectus

Strong, dashing, marking half-back who was an All-Australian U18 in 2009 and who’s played senior footy with Peel. Has an appealing hint of aggression. Seems suited to only one position, but he does it well. Paul Daffey

Strong-marking medium defender who reads the game very well across half-back and uses the ball effectively. Earned All-Australian honours in 2009 and was consistent for WA at under-18 level this year, averaging 18 disposals at 78 per cent efficiency and five marks. Kevin Sheehan

In his own words

What type of player are you?
A strong marking defender who can also generate run from behind.

Which AFL player do you feel you resemble, and why?
Brian Lake, because I feel I read the play like he does and can take defensive marks.

What are your strengths as a footballer?
Reading of the play, kicking skills, marking skills

What parts of your game would you like to improve?
My tackling pressure, speed and endurance.

Which AFL team do you support and how did you come to barrack for them?
Fremantle because I have just grown up going for them.

Who has been the biggest influence on your career so far, and why?
Dad has always been there helping, giving me advice and pushing me on.

Up there with Hurley as a reader of the play in defense, going on the last two under 18 champs. Doesn't just look to spoil, but takes marks and has great vision and skills on left and right.

Will take time, maybe can only play one position....But, does it very well.

Anyone seen much of him this year so far in the wafl?

Incredible kick. Really knows how to weight a pass. Pre draft people talked up Sheppard's great footskills but Wilson has him covered by a long way.

Can anyone report how Wilson has gone in the WAFL this year? Is he a chance to play a game for the Eagles this year with the long-term injuries to Waters, Brown and Bones and form slump of Sheppard?

Without ever seeing him play Im going to make a leap of faith based on my amazing insight and blind optimism and say that Wilson will end up shadowing Darling as the biggest steal from this draft. (Just got a feeling)

How was his year in the WAFL?

At the times i watched him he was excellent and poor. Not sure how many guys watch Peel on this site. Wasn't fully fit and doesn't tackle or chase enough. Defensivly he's pretty solid but he needs to do those negative "Pressure" things to debut.

In saying that he wasn't expected to play in 2011.
