Bloody schwab...

I have been meaning to start this threa for some time but have never gotten around to it.
Frankly I am rather ****ed off over shwabs comments about pavlich staying during the derby, and the effect they seem to have had.
So the question is did his comments potentially cost us Pavlich or was he going no matter what.

BTW I am almost convinced he is going so before anyone points out he isnt gone yet.
While where on the topic few more questions
1.Who do we want listed in terms of Priority
2.Will you boo Pavlich upon his return to subi next year?

Dunno about this shwab fella, but Cameron Schwab's comments only annoyed the Pavlich camp, no more. I don't think it would have affected the outcome either way.

He was already gone IMO.

The comments were made at a luncheon and I wouldn't have got too upset as it was really just the CEO trying to sell his side (product). If those sorts of comments upset the people involved in the negotiations, they obviously don't know when to "go with the flow" and let some things through to the keeper.

I'm at the point, if Pav stays great, if he goes to S.A., so be it, but if he heads elsewhere he'll be a mercenary. Call me old fashioned but I still like to see some honesty and loyalty, it goes to make great teams.

In my view this was a plow by pavlichs managment to try and make the club look bad while assisting to deflect any critisim Pavlich will cop when he finally states he's leaving.

So are you telling us that Cameron Schwab lied to all the freo supporters?

IMHO, I think that Pav will stay at the Dockers and I think that you are jumping the gun and getting angry.

Settle down sab, Pav will stay.

Schwab's got form - he was apparently telling the South Freo president that the Dockers had bagged Sumich as an assistant coach, just before he signed with West Coast.

That said, and aside from any arguments you may have with Schwab's mathematical abilities, your media profile has never been higher in this town since he arrived.

And if Pavlich is going to go for that reason - seriously, why would you want him in the first place?

But my point is why would schwab do that?
What was the point of that, it certainly didnt help.

My reasons for my belief he is going.

1.His performance on Cometti live
2.Stalling his contract discussion till the end of the year ala Black
3.His performance against richardson, seems "his bags were already packed and his mind was on what is to come back home" (copywrite Dockers_Brat all rights reserved :p)

1) Who would I want from the pavlich trade, in a perfect world I'd somehow like to end up with Des Headland, but I don't think that is going to happen. So purely from a freo perspective I'd like to see a three way trade with the dockers giving the crows Pavlich who would in turn trade Kane Johnson to Geelong and Tyson Stenglein and Joel Corey heading to freo with swaps of draft picks ofcourse.

So .......
Adelaide -
Gain: Pavlich
Lose: Kane Johnson, Tyson Stenglein, Third Round Pick

Geelong -
Gain: Kane Johnson + Adelaides third round pick
Lose: Joel Corey

Freo -
Gain: Tyson Stenglein and Joel Corey
Lose: Matthew Pavlich

As for Pav leaving, I guess it depends on the circumstances in which he left the club. I'm inclined to say YES I would boo him next year if he came back in other colours, purely for the fact that his management has virtually held the club to ransom and although many people have been critical of Max Stevens in the whole affair, in the end Pav is essentially his boss and is therefore held accountable for anything his management does. Heath Black, I would never boo, while he was here he gave his all to the club and I hold no ill feelings about him leaving, if Pav left now I don't think he has shown the same class in the whole "for sale" situation.

In a trade for Pavlich, I don't think we should be satisfied with anything less than a trade involving Freo getting Headland, or a trade involving Freo getting a top three draft pick to allow us to pick up Daniel Wells. However, organising a 3-way trade appears to be another problem.

BTW I am NOT saying that Stenglein and Corey are not quality players.... because they are, however Freo's main objective should be to snare Headland or Wells (if Pavlich does leave).

Yeh I agree, but I don't think Carlton will give away their early picks easily this year or the blues supporters would tear the place down. As much as I'd like to go for wells, I think we should recruit a few players who have played some senior footy and can step into the team straight away.

As for Headland, I don't know what all this talk about him coming home has been about. I know it has been reported in the media that he wants to come back, but his family has moved to queensland and seem to have settled there well, his sister is even playing state junior netball for QLD. That being said I do hope that he comes back to play for the dockers. But I just can't think what brisbane would demand for him. With the way he's been playing lately we'd have to secure a 1st or 2nd pick off carlton to be in any position to trade for him and then comes the dilemma, if we trade heavily and get that pick what do we do, use the pick on wells or trade it for Headland??

I'm gonna faint! I actually agree with you!

As Commetti said in the paper. Schwabby finally gave Freo fans some hope re: Pav after months of stalling and poor Pavy-Wavy got annoyed.

If his family have moved to Queensland, then I have my doubts over whether he would want to come back home...

With Leigh Matthews being the senior coach, it will certainly be hard for us to force a bargain trade. If Headland did want to come back, we would probably have to give up a player of the ilk of J.Longmuir, or perhaps our 1st round pick and a player such as L.Brown... ??

I know this probably won't happen... But this would be the ideal trade:

Pavlich to Carlton for pick #2 and 3rd round draft pick.
Our first round draft pick (#6 at the moment) and the 3rd round pick to Brisbane for Headland.

Freo gain:
Headland and pick #2 (Wells)
Lose:
Pavlich and first round draft pick (pick #6 a.t.m)

Carlton gain:
Pavlich (Can then be on-traded to Adelaide or Port if needs be)
Lose:
pick #2 and third round pick

Brisbane gain:
First round draft pick (#6) and third round pick
Lose:
Headland

My reasoning behind this is that the difference between the #2 pick and the #6 pick will most likely be the difference between snaring Wells and missing out on him.

Wouldn't mind if Ashley McGrath came home either... Perhaps for L.Brown??

Pavlich is as good as gone i recon his performance on the weekend proved that his heart aint with freo any more i think he just wants to go home which is fair enough freo just need to get the best deal for him and make sure they sign up longmuir and haselby aswell

If schwabs comments are the reason that pav would leave then he's heart wasn't realy with freo and he should leave.
I still think he will stay

no i will not boo him if he goes back to adelaide,if he went to a victorian club chasing money i would.

I would want headland

Hi guys,

Hope I'm not hijacking your board.

I'm just a little suprised that you all seem to think that Pavlich will be leaving.

Im a Port man so obviously I'd be more than keen to get him to Adelaide, but I still think the job of getting him to leave the Dockers would be huge given their improvement this year. (Yes UI thought the DOckers would struggle and end up winning 5 - 7 games this season - but they have shown genuine improvement)

Obviously you cannot measure a players desire to return home, but I would have thought he would still be a huge chance to stay.

BTW reports out of SA about what Schwab said basically impled that Pavlich and group had heard what had been said and that he felt taken for granted. I think the quote I heard was "If I know human character, then Pavlich will be a Docker next year"

Trade wise what would you be looking at from Port ?

(Are you looking at specific players ... or player "types" ) - ie forwards, defenders, on ballers.

How much does this change if Pavlich were to say "I'm going no matter what so you either work out the trade I want or I'm in the draft" ? (I dont think hes the sort of person to say that though)

Let's not muck around here - Tredrea, or Josh Carr (the missing Yang to Matty's Yin) and a first round pick.

Both are very good players.

As for Tredrea, from Ports end it wouldn't happen. Why trade an established key position player for an up an comer who isn't all that much younger.

Carr - he is a personal favourite of mine at the Port cause of the way he goes about it. I remember when he wasdfirst picked up Port was ridiculed a bit for grabbing him by clubs that said he was too slow etc etc, but Port believed he had something to offer and was a determined character so they went with him and I think they have been rewarded.

I'd hate to lose him, but all that said, its a lot harder to find or recruit a key position player of Pavlichs potential than an onballer/tagger. That being said I'd probably accept the Carr deal ... but would be quietly grinning because emotion aside IO'd say we were getting away with a steal if thats all it cost us. I'd suggest at least a mid range draft pick thrown in.

Port would not trade their (soon to be) 2 time All Australian CHF, the current best CHF in the league, vice captain (and probable next captain) and (soon to be) 5 time leading goalkicker to Fremantle for Matthew Pavlich.

Thats like saying, what would i want for Tredrea - Haselby, Pavlich and 2nd and 3rd round picks in the draft. Laughable!

May be laughable, but if we're going to trade Pavlich, and you want him, we'll set our sights high and you'll have to convince us you've got something more acceptable to compensate our loss and your gain.

If Pavlich doesnt want to play at Fremantle and come trade week you are gonna ask for every teams best player for him he wont be traded and he'll go in the draft and youll get sweet diddly squat for him.
Will you be asking Brisbane for Michael Voss or Simon Black as well???
