Carlton midfielder Heath Scotland says the club is quietly confident it can overcome the Western Bulldogs on Saturday night and advance into the Wizard Home Loans Cup grand final on March 12.
Scotland, who was speaking at the Blues' recovery session at Kerferd Rd Beach on Monday, said wins against Essendon and Melbourne had given the club the impetus to go all the way.
"We're pretty confident after the last couple of games, but we've obviously got to focus on the Bulldogs this week, who are in the same boat as us, and they've got a lot to prove and they're in good form," Scotland said.
Scotland said Carlton's recent good form was building the confidence needed for the season proper.
"We're not getting carried away, we've only won two Wizard Cup games, but the important thing is that we're winning and giving our supporters some hope and we're obviously getting some self-belief in ourselves and it lets us know that we can play," Scotland said.
"Obviously we've had a bad couple of years and obviously we've got to prove - not only to ourselves - but to our supporters that we can play and give a bit of joy back to them, so they can get something out of us coming to watch us play football.
"I think it's important that we really put in a good performance this week."
Scotland also praised the performance of key forwards - Lance Whitnall and Brendan Fevola, who booted four goals each against Melbourne.
"Big Red and Fevvy have been working well together and they're both taken plenty of marks and kicking goals," Scotland said.
"There are some great combinations out there, but Brendan and Lance are two great players and when they're working well like they have been the last couple of weeks, it really lifts our side and makes us a better team."
